I took my stock wrx to Desoto drag strip thurs. nite to see what it would run . The only mod i have is a silencer chop. I'm having trouble with my launch seems to bog when i let out the cluch. I don't have any d\r experience, so i was wondering if anyone else took their wrx to the track before any mods were done. My times was from a slow 15.7 to a best time of a 14.9 My best 60ft time was 2.08

The best way to judge your times is to go by the mph.

The time is effected by the launch but mph remains pretty constant.

So what was your mph? :)

I stink at launching also. You need to ride the clutch to keep it from bogging.

Well goss the 15.7 was 85.88 mph and the 14.9 was 91.52 mph

The 91 mph sounds about right. I was running about 92 stock.

You might try keeping it in third at the end and not shifting into 4th.

Looks good so far. I think it is a tough car to launch.

You are right Bill . i was at 7000 rpm in 3 gear at the finish line. Thanks i'll have to shift sooner next time

No, Bill was telling you not to shift out of 3rd at the end. Otherwise, you should shift at 7k from 1st - 2nd and 6500 from 2nd - 3rd.

These cars are very hard to launch properly and consistently. Once you get it though it is not too bad. The bad part is dogging your car until you get it right. Sounds like you are on the right track. Once you get the bog out you should drop to the mid-14's.

Good luck,

Thanks Turborex. I`m not always very clear.

Ya, keep it in third, while you`re stock.

I had to start shifting into fourth once I installed the unichip.

I still run alot of 2.0/2.1 60' times. With a best of 1.93 :)

Get a mbc, you`ll love it.

i'll try the 7000,6500, 6500 shift points and see how it works. I did have a full tank of gas and i wondered if a ecu reset would help any?

One thing that I`ve discovered on my car and several others have said the same, the stock tach is at least 500 rpm off.

I hit the rev limiter between 7500 and 7700 rpm. :)

When I did the 1/4 stock I`d cross the finish in third and right after crossing I`d hit the limiter.

So in my case third worked best for me. :)

Hey Bill, sounds like you have done what I will be doing in two weeks (unichip on the way). Have you experimented with the best shift points. I suspect that 7000 for every shift is best once you either have the mbc or unichip and most likely if you have the turbo back. I think with just my turbo back that 7000 is the best shift point (not sure yet).

How are you launching the car? I have done the 5k slip thing and according to my computer it is slower than the floor it, then slip the clutch method. I think the 5k slip can be as fast with practice put mine needs work. The 5k slip also seems easier on everything. However, the flooring and then slip gets easy tire spin. It is a little scary since I cringe thinking something will break but mostly it shouldn't since the tires are spinning. Oh well, hope it holds together for a long time.
