View Full Version : New Altima to debut at NY
mh_WRX 03-23-2006, 05:04 PM The New York auto show will be the first public display of the new 2007 Nissan Altima, the company confirmed on Wednesday. A new body style arrives in 2007 on a new "D" platform, promising better body rigidity and a newly penned suspension. Nissan's Xtronic CVT will be standard on all models, while the 3.5-liter V-6 and 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines will remain on the roster. On sale in the fall of 2006, the Altima, Nissan says, will be one of the best-performing front-drive sedans on the market.

So the new CVT will be the the only transmission offered? I don't think there are enough buyers in that segment that would choose manual over automatic unless it's cheaper, and if the CVT is standard then that probably means no manual.
amdmaxx 03-23-2006, 07:51 PM no.. not only one..
JoeyW 03-23-2006, 09:19 PM hmm interesting.. atleast the tails look alot better now..
BigElm 03-23-2006, 10:55 PM The lines, at least from that pic, look nice. Still early to comment the non-available manual... but if they tend to produce the SE-R, then the manual has to be around, otherwise it'll flop. I almost bought the SE-R, comfortable, responsive but the torque steer was unbearable.
Fuzz541 03-24-2006, 08:54 AM Prediction: 5 or 6 speed in SE-R and 6 speed in SE-R VSpec, if they continue with that line.
Alternative: button/paddle manumatic in everything but the SE-R/V, which gets a 6.
jigga 03-24-2006, 09:06 AM they never said that a manual won't be around... they just siad that the cvt will be STANDARD on all models.... This implies that there will be a manual option as well imo...
Corkfish 03-24-2006, 10:28 AM I test drove both the Altima and the Maxima before I bought my XT. The torque steer on both made driving them downright unpleasant. Under any acceleration, the Maxima had wheel hop that could spin you into the next lane.

No, just means the Standard...
JoeyW 04-10-2006, 06:50 PM anymore info on the new alitma yet?
amdmaxx 04-10-2006, 07:10 PM Yes, it will have 4 wheels..

My guess is it will also have 4 doors too... but that is going out on a limb.
blk_wrx 04-10-2006, 07:35 PM Just rented the awd CVT Murano...made me wonder why they never put that tranny in any other of their car line-up (atleast as an option). Trans is soo smooth...no gears...amazing...is this the future for cars trans? No more jerky shifts from an automatic when flooring it!!!

First CVT? 1989 Subaru Justy. It's come and gone in many cars. It has never caught on.

Well some of us actually LIKE to shift gears on our own... but I get what you mean. CVTs are really the future, and their main hinderance - reliability/durability - is getting worked on.
Even these new 6+ speed automatics aren't as smooth as a good CVT.

warpath 04-11-2006, 07:46 PM Hmmmm, need to see more pic's, so far not feel'n it.
mrwrx2002 04-11-2006, 07:58 PM the front ... the front! where is it
Hazdaz 04-11-2006, 07:58 PM Looks a LOT like the current Altima - except that the sheetmetal looks more taught over the body. I hope they didn't mess up that nose though - I thought the old Altima looked quite decent for a 4-door family sedan.
I wonder if this is just a restyling or an all new car.
Cardiff Giant 04-11-2006, 08:01 PM tail lights sure look better.

Am i the only one bored by this? Another Honda Accord
mh_WRX 04-12-2006, 02:39 PM It really does look too much like the Maxima..or the other way around
SoDealer 04-12-2006, 02:45 PM These corporate faces really are getting out of hand. Some of the brands take quite a bit of thought to decide model it is. BMW does a good job of having it's cars instantly recognizable as BMWs, but each car is stylistically unique. Audi is a good example of the opposite.
AGscooby 04-12-2006, 03:33 PM Boo! They Maximized it. Maybe they can do something with that goofy front on the SE-R. It's a butter-face...

ding ding ding we have a winner! I totally agree, looks way too similar to the Maxima or vice versa.
Hank3 04-12-2006, 05:52 PM What is with that steering wheel? It looks u-glee...

As a rental they're great, but they are completely unreliable, especially with a 3.5L V6's torque being sent through them.
When my wife and I were car shopping for her, we settled on either the AWD Murano or RWD FX. They are very similar dimensionally and the interior isn't really that far off. The FX won due to its reliablity and RWD.
SublimeGTP 04-12-2006, 06:02 PM Am i the only one bored by this? Another Honda Accord
I agree... the only thing that looks half way innovative/creative is the steering wheel.
cyberpirate 04-12-2006, 06:39 PM Dash/Controls reminds me of latest Pontiacs.
