I have a Black WRX sedan coming in 10 days, and can choose what factory accessories are going on the car. Which are really worthy of getting? STi Shortshifter? Thanks.

View Full Version : WRX coming - which factory Accessories to get? gazoline 09-30-2001, 02:49 AM I have a Black WRX sedan coming in 10 days, and can choose what factory accessories are going on the car. Which are really worthy of getting? STi Shortshifter? Thanks. Corpsie 09-30-2001, 04:16 PM from the links that people post, if you're handy with a wrench, it's cheaper to purchase everything aftermarket. Subie Gal 09-30-2001, 04:26 PM the factory stuff is overpriced... you can do better in the aftermarket... search, read and learn :) j. www.subiegal.com blue5spdwrxwagon 09-30-2001, 05:39 PM The Subaru accessories all are top notch quality and reasonably priced. I got my car with no accessories and installed them myself. You'll save money this way and become more familiar with your car in the process. I have the following factory accessories: Alarm Stereo upgrade (speakers and sub) Wheel locks Rubber floor mats (havn't used them yet) Car cover Trunk protector Rear bumper cover Package net Armrest extension Sedan rear stab bar And from Europe: Splash guards Door mouldings The stereo upgrade sounds pretty good but not great. Considering how little it costs, it's a good interim solution until I spend some money and time on the audio system. As far as the short shifter goes, I think the standard shifter feel is excellent and don't see any reason to try to improve it. Don't get me wrong, I have aftermarket stuff too. ;) SILVERWRXWAGON 09-30-2001, 06:07 PM How and where did you get the door moldings, do they prevent dings totoherbs 09-30-2001, 11:09 PM Alarm Stereo upgrade (speakers and sub) Wheel locks Rubber floor mats (havn't used them yet) Car cover Trunk protector Rear bumper cover Package net Armrest extension Sedan rear stab bar all of thies things can be done better for much cheaper http://www.subaruparts.com/ for the car cover, trunk protector, floor mats, and the armrest. everythings can be done cheeper otherplaces unless you dont know how to, then your better off going with the factory elgorey 10-01-2001, 12:27 PM It depends on how much you pay for your options. If you are ordering your WRX and your dealer gives you invoice price on your options, then they are cheaper than subaruparts.com gazoline 10-01-2001, 01:04 PM I may get the Subaru shortshifter at invoice, but I see that everything can be had at subaruparts.com. Thanks. Here I come aftermarket... exhaust, suspension, wheels etc... Stanley 10-01-2001, 01:08 PM I got the following from my dealer at invoice plus 4% (about what Subaruparts.com sells them for): Upgraded alarm/sound system package -overall I am happy with this - sound system is OK...once I figured out how to tune the subwoofer it was a LOT better. It was installed in my car with the volume and crossover turned all the way up and sounded like crap. Rear bumper cover -no brainer to put this on, I would recommend it to anyone who uses there car for fun recreational stuff - some people may not like the way it looks... Rear Differential Cover -adds a bit of weight and can get in the way of after market mufflers, but is a good insurance for a rock or something hitting your (expensive) rear LSD differential. It's also a very convenient spot to use a floor jack to jack up the back of the car. Cross Bars for roof racks -I wound up returning these and going with the Yakima "double-cross" mounts and round bars that work with my existing stuff. Oh yeah, I got them for FREE from IMBA! So sweet. Short Shifter -I like mine, but after reading this board I think I would have been better off going with a Kartboy kit and bushings. I paid too much, but do enjoy the more precise, slightly notchier shifts. I had the stock set-up for about a month as the parts weren't in when I picked up my car and it is pretty good - so you may want to consider blue5spdwrxwagon's advice and drive one stock first to see if you like it well enough. Rubber mat for the back -get one if you are buying a wagon, unles you want to make one yourself that probably won't look as good... Leather Seats -I really like it better than the stock cloth. It looks good with all the black and silver plastic. The dealer arranged the install through Classic Soft Trim and they have provided excellent service. However, I wish I would have known the neoprene seat covers that someone posted a week or so ago however. I think they go with the style of the car better and are totally functional for snowboarding, scuba, boogie boarding, etc... Enjoy your new car! FirmWind 10-01-2001, 09:32 PM I just noticed that the Subaru website had put up a ground effects package for the WRX. Looks pretty nice. Not super aggressive like some of the aftermarket body kits. |
