I just got my car tuned with an ecutek reflashlast week and I am happy with it. but 2 weeks into it. I dont really feel like the car is all that fast again. combination of got used to it already and I think I may have had higher expectations out of a VF34...Anyways, My tuner told me that I am running consistent 10.80-10.90. How conservative is that? how high can you go without considerably shortening the life of the motor in a short time span? my setup=deadbolt PP VF34, pinks, walbro255 pump, TXS TMIC, catless with gtspec gen 2 headers. thanks

That's about right. I am running very close to 12 myself but that's on meth.

10.8-10.9 is safe.

i tune things myself and shoot for 11.5.

what did you dyno during your tune?

it hasnt been put on a dyno yet. it was road tuned. my tuner (dave of MSPT) told me he could push it harder but he was happy where it was at the end of the session. consistent 10.80-10.90's in accordance with my request of a decent margin of safety. I was just suspicious of reliatbility. basicaly I dont want to be pulling the motor within the year....The first thing he asked me was how many miles are on the car and how hard I wanted it tuned. basically saying that he could go 11+ but the stock 2.0 might be more prone to engine failure if you drive the hell out of it all the time. the car has 48k on it. with the warm weather coming up he told me he can lean it out a little more for me. Hey Ride what are you tuning with?

i'm running almost the same set-up on my car.aside from the p&p.using streetTUNER for my engine management.and @ wot i'm hitting 'round a 11.3-11.0.EGT's @ 1450-1500.don't know if this is playing a factor but i have 92 octane in the tank.

With Cali 91 gas, that is about what I run, 11.0 +- 0.3

Hey Ride what are you tuning with?

a utec, tuner pro wideband, laptop, and lots and lots of logs.. ;)

as others have pointed out, a BIG factor is the octane of your gasoline. here in new england we have pretty good 93. if i could only do 91 i would probably richen up a half to a full point afr wise just to keep things happy.

remember user tuners just about always push their cars a bit harder than a professional tuner will, just from a liability and reputation standpoint.

good point. well I am here in north jersey. I only run 93 octane. Like I said before I am not sure if I am making all the power that I could be making, within reason of course. now I see why people say its ONLY a VF34. I think I may have had bigger expectations. power wise though I walk a stock evo. by the top of second I was passed him and third i pulled away considerably. Its a nice feeling but more upsetting to think that when he gets some of his goodies he will blow my doors off by only spending $1500 to make 300+AWHP :(

I call safe anywhere around 11.2 and below (to a point of course)

Good power will come from around 11.4 to 11.6......you can keep going probably to 12 but to prevent knock you'll have to pull timing and EGT's are going to start to get up there....so eventually you'll hit a point where you'll go backwards in power the leaner you go.

Methanol I tuned 11.8 and tapered to 11.2 by redline because I wanted a safe and reliable tune...and if my meth failed I didn't want a catastrophic reaction to occur.

You are fine where you're at....probably could squeeze another 10hp out of the tune on that boost....but not worth it for reliability's sake IMO.

here in hawaii we don't have any awd dyno'.i think the closest 1 is on the west coast.so i have been doing road tuning,a lot of 3rd gear pulls & a couple of 4th gear pulls as well.i also have to deal with a lot of changes in elevation.from sea level up to around 3000 ft.all of which i have 2 deal with & try to tune my car to the best of my abilities.since no one where i live tunes subaru's,mostly hondas.btw does any one have a map for a vf-34(cobb stage 2.5).i would like to compare,i wanna see if i could be missing something.
