Mavrik 03-27-2006, 10:23 PM Well I'm hoping you reply to this because it means what I heard is wrong. The wife just called me and said she heard on the news that a young man named Shawn Nicholes died in a horrible accident on 5th ave. He was on a motor bike.
Now I didn't think you had your bike yet... I know your driving that red toyota pickup. Also the wife is not sure exactly how they pronounced the man's last name.
So yeah... really hoping what we heard didn't happen to you. :(
Sokudo 03-27-2006, 10:48 PM damn....i hope he's okay
00Maddog 03-27-2006, 10:55 PM damn, i hope he's ok too. he was last online at 2:44 today. that seems to be in his favor. he has been riding the bike according to his posts though.
Mavrik 03-27-2006, 11:06 PM I haven't heard anything on the news myself so I'm not even sure what time this was suppose to have happened. Hope thought it was around 1pm.
cooparu 03-27-2006, 11:09 PM Channel 2 news just showed it, Shawn Nicholson (sp?)
I think they said he was 22.
This doesn't look good. :(
Keeps fingers crossed.
eurojax 03-27-2006, 11:27 PM Wow, that would suck balls. Hopefully he gets online soon.
Mavrik 03-27-2006, 11:29 PM Hope tried calling him but got his voice mail...
kyleblix 03-27-2006, 11:30 PM I hope he's okay. Does anyone have his number to give him a call?
hope he comes online soon =(
*crosses fingers*
WRXnFX 03-27-2006, 11:35 PM Waiting patiently.

Mavrik 03-27-2006, 11:39 PM Well I got this from the KTUU website
Anchorage, Alaska - A 22-year-old University of Alaska Anchorage student is dead tonight, after crashing his motorcycle into a pick-up truck on East Fifth Avenue near Reeve Boulevard.
Around 11:30 this morning, police say a pick-up truck was heading eastbound on Fifth Avenue, getting ready to turn into a fast-food restaurant at Reeve Boulevard, when Shawn Mickelson slammed into the side of the truck on his motorcycle. Mickelson was then run over by the truck. He was wearing a helmet, but died at the scene.
Police say high speed on the part of Mickelson appears to be a factor in the crash. Police are reminding drivers that as the weather improves, motorcycles will be back on the streets.
“It’s a beautiful time to do it, but beware people have been driving for several months without motorcycles around and basically out of sight, out of mind. So give people a chance to get used to having motorcycles around. So be extra cautious,” said Sgt. Glen Daily, Anchorage police department.
The driver of the pick-up truck, Lawrence Hayward, Jr., was not injured in the crash.
They say the guy's name is Mickleson... not Nickleson... Post up shawn so we know your ok.
lover707 03-27-2006, 11:49 PM oh man, dude hope that is not u ..
man wow.. dang, dont even know what to say..
WRX8U82 03-27-2006, 11:56 PM I trully hope this is not hpracing...they are referring too :(
Sokudo 03-27-2006, 11:59 PM man...i really hope he's okay...he's born in 84 so that makes him 22...
WRXnFX 03-28-2006, 12:54 AM His sig also indicates he has an R6. Things aren't looking good. What's his phone number? Try doing a reverse look up with his number on white pages dot com and verify the spelling of his name.
Winslow
AWDBST 03-28-2006, 02:38 AM Hey everybody, his name is Shawn Mickelsen. I sold him the bike. From the website it said the accident occurred at 11:30. That is all the info I have right now.
AKSubie 03-28-2006, 02:39 AM Man, I hope it isnt him.
I just saw the thread posted on AKMS about beware of cycles. I didnt know he had a bike. I hope it wasnt him..... Does anyone know if he went to UAA? or even his age?
Agree with Winslow.. check the number versus reverse lookup.. I'll be praying his is spelt differently.
AWDBST 03-28-2006, 02:45 AM He is 22, went to UAA and also was in the aviation program. He had classes down at Merrill field. This does not look good.
AKSubie 03-28-2006, 02:50 AM Wow... ya it isnt.. lets keep our fingers crossed..
His profile was last active at 8am this morning.
whoaslowdown 03-28-2006, 02:55 AM Wow.. got to keeps are fingers crossed..will be a tragic if this is true..
Mavrik 03-28-2006, 02:55 AM well... until he actually posts or someone sees him... this is horrible.
eurojax 03-28-2006, 02:56 AM Didn't realize he is/was such an oldskool member, don't think I ever met him at meets in 2003.
AKLGT 03-28-2006, 02:58 AM yes, his name IS Shawn Mickelsen. I've tried calling him several times since someone called me and asked about if it was him. one of my co-workers knew he was in my "subaru club" and thought the name seemed familiar. :(
i know he mentioned the other night he was wanting to get his bike, and with the weather being so nice out, i am hoping that all the info is WRONG. it's looking bleak right now... how many 22 yr old sean mickelson's are there in Anchorage?
so everyone, let's please pray that he's alright and for the family of the young man who died. keep an eye out for motorcycles!!!
AK_2002_WRX 03-28-2006, 04:18 AM man, that sucks. i hope he is ok. i've only met him once or twice.... but its not good to lose any member. hope hes ok. anyone see the news tonite?
AKLGT 03-28-2006, 04:25 AM watched the news. it doesn't look good i have to admit. :(
saw the news but same info. no pic of him either. anyone know how to reach him otherwise? maybe i'll try and stop by his place tomorrow afternoon if noone hears back. i think he just recently moved not that long ago..

WRXnFX 03-28-2006, 05:30 AM Browsed a few pages and it pretty much confirmed everyones' speculation. This really hits home when it happens to someone you know or at least interact with. My sympathy goes out to the families.

ive only met him once but he was a really cool guy..
sad to hear that he had to go.
no one will forget him
RIP Shawn
Mavrik 03-28-2006, 12:47 PM RIP shawn...
it was him. On the news last night they showed a cop picking up that same helmet shawn's holding in the above pic...
Does anyone have a way of contacting his family so we can find out when the funeral is?
AKLGT 03-28-2006, 12:53 PM awww... this sucks! but yes, that was the helmet they were picking up on the news.... :(
here's a pic of sean cheesing for the camera from last Fri night's meet at Sea Galley. What a shame to have gone at such an early age (or just about any age really). I enjoyed interacting with him, making fun of the "cromagnum man" with his Korean-Caucasian brow daring me to eat some rancid Kimchee. lol. or talking about his Red Robin cravings that I'd have to go stop and eat there at work.
i hope they let us know when the memorial or funeral is because I know we'd like to attend.

AKLGT 03-28-2006, 01:48 PM mods, is there a way to change the title without starting a new thread? maybe more like a member announcement so people know what the thread's about?

As soon as I saw this picture, I knew it was him. I saw that helmet at the wreck yesterday :( So surreal. Condolences to his family and friends, and like the article said, make sure you look out for motorcycles, since they're going to be out a lot more.
SQUAD_907 03-28-2006, 03:08 PM my condolences to his family and friends in juneau!
Mavrik 03-28-2006, 03:23 PM What really sucks is I think he sold his car to Park n Sell? Anyway its here for a cel light concern by the new owner today... :( It looks like his car anyway... same headlights, blue, no spoiler and gold rims...
EBWRC#1 03-28-2006, 03:25 PM Wow, I was just browsing arround, and finding this is just shocking. What a year my fellow members. Be careful out there. There has been a lot of people leaving us, including my brother in law last month ( just 33 years old and the coolest guy evar)
Shawn...Hope to see you there!, even I didn't know you, you look like a friend to have!.. say hi to Lovell, burns and all the others !
God bless and keep in peace his family now :(
shaundizzle 03-28-2006, 03:32 PM Hello all, its been about 2 years since i've posted on here, but i've been a member of Coldspeed.net now since it basically began, and Maxx_Boost posted on there that there is a thread for Shawn on here.
Shawn was one of my best friends, and this entire thing is surreal, there really isn't any words to describe the feelings and emotions that are going on. He was one of the friends you have, and look forward to growing up with, and enjoying life with eachother. He did have a great life, and accomplished many things that most of us can only dream of. He was by far, one of the funniest people you'd ever meet, and was always the one guy to make a bad day good. I won't make this a book, but I definitely wanted to post and say thank you to those that knew him in the Anchorage area, and who are keeping good tabs on things. He was a a genuine guy and will never be forgotten. I love you Shawn. RIP.
Thanks everybody, for those who want to read more on Shawn, look on the Coldspeed.net website, everybody is way more than welcome. We all sign on these forums and websites for a reason, now we have a linking subject, and for those who knew him or knew of him, it'd be nice to hear from you.
AKLGT 03-28-2006, 03:42 PM ya he was good guy for sure. always kept me in stitches at all the meets and then some. kind of reminds you how fragile life really is.
thanks for the post and letting us know about the other link. i'll have to check it out.
eatwrx 03-28-2006, 03:46 PM I met him once when he ventured by the office to have his OBDII codes checked and cleared on his WRX.
I had been waiting for him to post up like it was some bad April Fool’s joke (edit: not responding to the thread) or just see him in April at the Hooter’s and UFC meet.
My condolences to the family.
AWDBST 03-28-2006, 04:06 PM Rest in peace Shawn. We will miss you. Condolences to his family and friends. Everybody keep an eye out for motorcycles they are out everywhere.
eurojax 03-28-2006, 04:28 PM Gone but not forgotten under his name yet, winslow?
Mavrik 03-28-2006, 04:42 PM now I wonder if the funeral is going to be held in Juneau since thats were his family is. If thats the case and most of us can't make it then... we should have a meet in memory of him and toast him in the better place he has gone.
There is an article now on anchorage daily news about it.
whoaslowdown 03-28-2006, 05:06 PM RIP Shawn, my condolences goes to his family and friends. It's a shame to see a member, loved one, friend, etc go. Never know when stuff like this will happen in life.
I wish the most for the family and remember everyone to keep clear and on the look out for motorcycles.
Sam
AKLGT 03-28-2006, 05:13 PM i looked on ADN and didn't see any mention of it. just on ktuu's site.
yes, everyone, keep an eye out for motorcycles!

I second the meet in memory of him.
Also, how about sending flowers or something to his family? A group thing? Just a thought.
AKLGT 03-28-2006, 05:16 PM that's a great idea. we should definitely send some flowers, but anyone know where to?? lol. or to whom? other than Juneau?
but yes, definitely should do something, a meet or what not. maybe at Red Robin since he was always going on and on about how much he loved their burgers. :) i think if we were to go back and look thru all the meet threads, they were probably started by shawn or at least fueled by him! lol

Shawn's Dad was in the process of retiring as an investigator with the Juneau Police Department and may be in Anchorage. Arrangements are unknown at this time.
Lots of good memories working on his WRX with him in the Juneau "ghetto" shop. He will really be missed by everyone. Drive safely...
Mavrik 03-28-2006, 05:58 PM if there is none for him here we'll have to organize our own.
edo2000 03-28-2006, 06:08 PM Condolences to Shawn's family. This must be unbearable for them. I didn't really know him, but I can tell that he touched a lot of people in a positive way. Just a week or two ago, I was pming trying to figure out how to buy his vf-34 setup, without giving up my stock stuff. Hard to imagine how fleeting life really can be.

AK*WRX*2004 03-28-2006, 07:06 PM Hey guys,
The funeral's going to be at 3pm tomorrow. I'm not sure EXACTLY where it's going to be at but I know it's near Bragaw and 20th ave. kind of by East High I hear. Does anybody know which one I'm talking about?? If so please post up the name and better directions. I've never been there but I'm sure the family would love it if we all came out. I found this out from the family. I've know Shawn and his family since we were little boogers. Our families are very close. -eugene

NerdyAlaska 03-28-2006, 09:52 PM Man this sucks, Shaun was cool I worked with him for a bit at Alaska Airlines before I quit and he was super cool. Wes_FSTGDB 03-29-2006, 12:18 AM Wow, reading this post from the beginning I thought that we would all get the OK from Shawn that this wasn't him. As I read further it got worse and then wam, there it is right in your face.
I just met him for the first time at the Sea Galley meet. Seemed really cool and I really hoped to see him later on at meets. His dad was there too. All I can think of is 4 days ago I was with this guy laughing, seeing him smile, and now he's not even around. It hits me pretty hard and I really don't know what to say.
He will be greatly missed and my condolences go out to this family. I can't imagine what they must be going through. My prayers go out to Shawn, I hope he's in a better place...

west005 03-30-2006, 09:47 AM Shawn was a VERY Good friend of mine. We where stationed together at Eglin AFB, Fl before he went to Japan. He got out of the military and went home to AK. We cruised every weekend together with Elliott Cain and I. The three of us Started the Flat 4 of Florida chapter. I was in shock when they called me at work. I still can't believe he is gone, I was pm'ing with him and e-mail a lot. I want to go up there but my wife is bedridden with a high risk pregnancy and we can't travel. It is so hard on a family when this kind of thing Happens, I feel for them.

R.I.P. Shawn, you will never be forgotten!
brian_i 03-30-2006, 01:13 PM Well...i just got back from florida yesterday afternoon.... Sam gave me a call later in the day... and told me about the news with Shawn.. I didnt want to believe him...i thought he was just trying to toy with me ... and he told me it was the truth and it was on the board (i didnt have internet access in Florida).. I ...I really dont know what to say for him...Im realy feeling deeply hurt by his death...I was sitting in my car last night looking up at the nite sky just thinking...why? how could this happen to Shawn.. he ment to much to all of us on the board.. He was one of the very first people i met that was part of AKIC.... and the first wrx i raced with my wrx... of course wooping my a**... I went last nite to Wendys and placed 3 roses that i quickly tried to get a hold of .. I'll probably get some more and place it at his death location....I even weirdly texted his cell last nite.. saying i thank him for everything he did for me ... even though he wouldnt be able to respond.. but i know he read it somewhere....Shawn Rest in Peace my friend ...you helped me so much....you even sold me the Downpipe to the wrx from urs.... now as odd as it may be ..its like a part of you is now with my car powering it even more... I know its weird.. but ...yeah.....I wish i could of made his funeral..ill probably post more on that thread about that.. I would of wanted to go and say my last goodbyes...and being open casket.. would of been a way to last see him.. last time i saw him was a few weeks ago at Josh's house after we put in my downpipe.. now all i got left ..is that pic he had above along with his car pics from a thread placed awhile ago.. i wanted to say sorry to his family.. and my prayers are now always with him.. ill never forget that kid.. just seems like yesterday how we were teasing him about being Emo and writing those poems of his ....i wish i never went on vacation and went to the meet... would of been a way to remember him even more.. its things like this ..that really hit you hard and you think why did this happen?... my prayers are with ya Shawn..where ever you are....
And as said earlier There are no goodbyes, just see ya laters... when i do i bet we'll be all racing in the after life...
RIP Shawn......
shaundizzle 03-30-2006, 03:40 PM Wow, reading all your thoughts and memories, it brings a tear with a smile to my face, the life he chose to live was always in the fast lane. And its great that you guys all had the same car and were able to really have something in common, and really enjoy your times together like we did here at home in Juneau.
That downpipe he sold you... was it the HKS? If so, thats the one he bought in Oregon, and I myself brought it up here for him. Too funny, he didn't want to pay shipping, so he purchased it by credit card and had me carry it through the damn airport! That guy, i'm really going to miss his ways. He would make a joke out of seriously ANYTHING just to get a rise out of you. He adored his WRX, and he was never modest about it. He'd tell anybody straight up just how lame another car is, then he'd go on about how much raping he could do to the cement by going in reverse. JUST to make sure you knew he'd smoke you. Haha damn, you guys have to post meet pics, i've never seen any with him and his car in them... it would be nice to know what he was always bragging about! RIP kid, I love you

w0rx4me 04-25-2006, 10:47 PM Wow, I'm a member in the Tri-State Region and I never expected to be browsing the Alaskan Forum, but I did a Google search for something random and came upon this thread. After spending most of the past hour reading this thread and seeing how many friends he has and how much he was loved via his myspace, I can say I feel incredibly unlucky for never meeting Shawn.
May he rest in peace and watch over all of you guys everytime you take it to the road. God Bless Shawn... :)
