The only benefit fromthe gold is that the contacts on the bulb itself wont corrode, of course I've never seen a modern headlamp fail from corrosion on the contacts. They normally fail due to the filament breaking. Also the amount of current wasted by going through tinned copper or steel contacts is really really small.
