View Full Version : Blinder M-20 acting up, too high of voltage?

Ok...this is getting annoying. I have the blinder M-20 on my scooby. It was working wonderfully until about a month ago. Now it doesn't do the startup test when I start the car. If I turn it off and on. It doesn't do it either. I tested the tranceivers with a laser tester and they don't work when this happens.

With that said, they do actually work. Every so often my car will drop voltage, and then it will do the startup test with a noise and the light turns red for a couple seconds and then its ready to rock. As soon as voltage is back to normal, it doesn't work.

I don't have a volt meter on my car. So I don't actually know the numbers. But, I have tried multiple things and it seems as though when the car is in the on position but not running and I have my ipod, v1, lights and my accessport on, the battery is drained a bit, and the blinder works. Anyone have any ideas to why this would be happening? This sux not having coverage! I drive 40hrs a week.

Thanks for any help!

Well obviously the first thing to do is to get a voltmeter and read the voltage. With Digital Multi-Meters starting at $4 there's no excuse not having at least one. I have 5 or 6 around ranging from $350 Fluke 189 to the $4 Harbor Freight special that ALWAYS lives in my spare tire well.

And I'll bet it is not overvoltage - though it's possible Blinder did design in some protection, it's unlikely. More likely is a bad connection - and a bad ground is most likely, but the M20 also uses the connections to the display head so it could be there.

I did some testing today, and everything seemed legit. The numbers were good. I called Blinder and they're gonna send me another unit out asap! Now that's what I like to see in a company!! No hesitation :) Hopefully I don't continue to have problems after I swap em out.

Thanks,

That does sound pretty cool. Hopefully it all works out for you. I have the Lidatek LE-30, but the Blinder sounds like a really nice unit.

lame. I got the new unit and threw it in. Same crap. I get 13.5v at the switch and right before the unit. Any possibilities. I checked my ground and it's good. This is becoming pretty frustrating.

Thanks,

Did you check all the wiring to/from the unit (e.g. could it be an intermittent switch or other connection problem)?

all the wiring to and fro are just as they should be. It's getting enough power too. I think the heads are shot. Gonna talk to Leon about it tomorrow. I think I have a deeper issue in my electrical system. It's becoming really annoying to track it down!!!
