Hi guys just a quick one for you US based guys out there.

I've recently picked up a fairly modified MY04 STI Aus spec with a fairly well built EJ257. The only issue I'm having is the strength of the rods used during the build. I am told they are Eagle rods with 5/16" bolts etc. The engine has only just been run in and is about to go for a proper tune hoever the tuner is hesitant about exceeding a boost level of 25psi citing the rods as a slight weakness.

Any thoughts or for that matter threads that anyone could point me to would be much appreciated. In the meantime I'm off to use the search facility

Cheers

Crowers ftw. on the other hand, i'm not expert, but i've seen eagle's put up with some ridiculous ****. they're stronger than people give them credit for.

I've used Eagle rods in many high rpm, high hp applications. The bottom line is...measure them, measure the crank. As your rods are already in the engine, I'm going to assume they were correct.

The Eagles (CRS5137S3D) are rated for 700hp, per Eagle.

With the length of the rod, I think billet rods are a waste of money. Eagles are a nice in-between. I wouldn't have a bit of concern...my concern would be more for your tuner making that statement. ;)

Thanks guys, It looks like I'll have to I'll have to find out exactly what part no Rods they actually used. The guys over here tend to use some of the stronger pauter rods however during the build these could not be obtained in time. I think the concern is that they, the Eagles are a bit of an unknown and perhaps thats why the tuner is being pretty cautious.
What I'm hoping to find is a few posts (like yours) indicating what sort of power levels were obtained and basically how much abuse these puppies can handle.
I'm now finding out that the ignition system would have to be upgraded a bit once things step over say 28 psi so things start to get a bit more expensive If I'm just after a few more kws. Then again thats never stopped me before ;)

Thanks

Eagle makes a decent rod, but if you in search for a good rod at a reasonable price try the carrillo A Beams or Super A beams.

This is the first instance I heard of where Eagle rods have been used in a EJ257. If they work I imagine the SCAT ones do to. No one I ever talked to could say if the rod caps would work with the 257 block. Here is one data point.

I stated long ago that I fit the rods in my 257 build; I just didn't use them because they needed to be bushed for a .866" pin.

The Eagles will not work with the stock hyper pistons, due to the funky pin boss....but it makes no sense to use stock pistons with those rods, anyhoo.

The plot thickens.... I've just had a closer look at the actual block and low and behold in great big cast letters is has 'EJ25' on the top perhaps this explains why the rods will work  EJ20 ?? . So now I'm thinking how do I identify an EJ257 block is this similarly embossed in the same postion as what mine is

Further confusion for me as a newbie 2.5 owner

ww.axispowerracing.net/25sti/casepic.JPG

Its the same as the Axis picture ..err but it clearly has 'EJ25' too  yet they are displaying the additonal webbing on the newer block

(sorry about the dodgy Axis URL I cant post pics directly due to my minimal post count - workin on it ;)
