alright! So I have a '95 L with an auto trans. (1.8ltr FWD only... sadly...) that I am just utterly bored to death with  I want to put a 5speed in it and the rear drivetrain to have AWD eventually. I was just wondering if I could put a 5speed from another L, or Impreza Outback (would the 2.2ltr 5speed work???), into it without putting all the rear drivetrain in aswell for the time being untill I had enough $$$$ for the rear end stuff?
plus if I can remember correctly, the FWD L only came with an automatic right?
Thanks a lot for any help!

yes any ej suby trans fits. going awd trans and 5spd is not a good idea. use a fwd 5spd if you want gears. if you can wait go awd and 5/6 spd at the same time. your 95 may have an awd tank, but not 100% sure. fwd 5spd are out there i owned one as did my friend mark. -keith

I have a FWD tranny from a 92 Legacy I need to get rid of. However I would not recommend installing an awd tranny without doing the rear end. You will most likely nuke the center diff. It will work for a while, but not long.

Thanks for all the inputs. I'm gonna start searching for a 5spd ASAP, and hopefully I can get a good deal on everything I need to make it AWD *crosses fingers*. I'll try to keep an update of any progress on the site, and be sure that I will come up with a few more questions about this project.
