Since my nav system got jacked while being fixed at exeter, its time to go out and get another hopefully. Does anyone know if there is a real difference between the AVIC N2 and the N3? Because I dont see much of a difference, unless the differences are worth it, I think I might just go along with another N2 since the N3 is coming out and if its not worth it, the N2 will be a decent deal now.

The only enhancements the N3 delivers over the N2 are enhanced XM Radio and IPod interfaces.
XM interface finally includes onscreen channel logos, a full "whats playing" list of all channels, TuneSelect, and song memory. I'm really disappointed that this interface was left out of the AVIC-N2. You really miss out on XM's major features with the AVIC-N2 interface, which has none of the features above (it only displays 16 characters of song/artist info on a single line  )

And the iPod interface finally functions like an iPod.

The rest of the features (like lane information and the new GUI) are simply software updates that can be had on the AVIC-N2 by installing the 2006 version of the navigation software. I just ordered these discs for my AVIC-N2.
Basically, if you think you will ever use XM radio, definitely get the N3. Otherwise the two models are the same.

I also believe that the N3 comes with voice command.
where-as you had to buy it for the N2
not a really good reason to run out and buy the N3, it was a cheap part to buy.

It's not very good (on the N2 at least). I have the voice command microphone on my N2, and it always misinterprets "ZOOM IN", "ZOOM OUT", "DISC", "FIVE", and "NINE".
My biggest peeve is when it misunderstands your command as "CANCEL ROUTE". It deletes your current route, and you can't resume it until you pull over, stop the car, and engage the e-brake.
I'm really hoping that the CNDV-60MP update fixes these issues for me.

you do know about the gyro hack (if it has a gyro) and the grounding thing right BJ? if not check out this thread about the avic z1 where they explain the "hacking" for the AVIC series http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=969926&highlight=avic

I know about it, but I'm still debating if I want to do this and void the warranty on my new $1500 navigation system (or potentially break it altogether).
More importantly, does anybody have a solution for the ridiculous fan noises emanating from the AVIC-N2? It's super-irritating and I don't know what to do about it. This fan noise is enough for me to never buy another Pioneer product again.

I've had issues with ones I've installed for customers. some units are a lot louder than others. not sure why.
the only solution I would say is to switch the unit. unless you aren't worried about voiding the warranty.
if not you can dissasemble the case and disconnect the fan. for cooling you could hook up a much better ball bearing quite pc fan to cool the unit. if you go to that extent you might as well solder the leads together to bypass the e-brake.

I'm really disappointed. Pioneer refuses to acknowledge fan noise as a problem, and considers it to be "normal operation". I was driving with my windows down yesterday, and I could still hear the high pitched fan over the wind noise.
