I dont want to go any older than a 1990 and want to stay away from the Loyale. If I wanted to swap a newer motor 2.2L Turbo or bigger. What are going to be my best options? Should I find one that is already awd? All subie motors look basically the same, but do they mount the same?

I am going to buy another legacy or impreza but I dont want to custom anything except the hood, wiring, hoses. I have converted many hondas and understand the amount of work that is involved. I am not afraid of the work, Just want to know my options.
And yes I am GIVING UP THE HONDAS to go back to my roots.
Any suggestions?

In a Legacy or Impreza chassis, can I swap any other Legacy or Impreza 2.2L or larger engine without changing mounts, how is the hood clearance? Do all awd(assuming 5spd) bolt up the same?

the only problem will be with the wiring.

pretty much every powertrain produced after 1990 is interchageable (not justy/loyal)
imp/legacy/svx/forester/tribeca/wrx

the biggest deal with swapping subarus is ther the engine part of the wireing harness is not seperate from the rest of the harness so you have to strip and merge the two harenesses

a 2000 2.5 in a 1990 legacy will bolt up just fine (but you will have to deal with the added emmisions sensors)

I live in Central PA, but am willing to travel somewhat in the hopes of finding a good body with or without a motor/trans setup.

trans tend to be a little difficult to find .. i have been looking for a good deal for some time

Would a 1994 impreza mt awd jdm tranny bolt into a 1993 legacy mt fwd usdm if all parts came from this impreza?
