well... I've thoroughly neglected my RE-92's planning on replacing them with something better once they wore themselves out. well, it looks like now's the time so I have some advice requests as I'm very new to "car" tires. my last tire purchase were 32" mtrs with 1" deep lugs....
unfortunate timing, as I'm a bit short on play money at the moment.
Option one: outside tread on rear is almost to the point of being smooth (just rotated them from the front to prolong their life a bit more)... rest of tread has about 1/8 maybe. i could replace just these two with 2 more RE92s till i can find a good deal on some rota torques and rubber (i like dem wheels)
Option 2: replace all 4 tires on my stock rims. I like the look of the stock 05 rims, so i don't mind keeping em. heres where I need help: what kind of tire would you suggest replacing the re-92's with? I'm still getting a handle on what the size designations mean, and i don't even know where to start as far as finding an appropriate tire. I'll list my priorities for tire characteristics below.
Option 3: fork out the cash for some 17's and rubber. I really like the style of the rota torques, especially the bronze (or another color that is similar to my 05 stockers?) unfortunately at the moment i can't seem to find any with tires for an affordable price ($800give or take a benjamin or so).
to me, versatility is more important than superior street performance. I like to play in the dirt, and if we ever see snow here in NC, I like to be able to handle it as well.
Cliff Notes: i need new tires. for my 16's or buy new 17's. need suggestions. on a bit of a budget.
-versatile
-better traction all around than the re-92s
-not overly expensive
-if i stay on my 16's what would an appropriate tire be?
-could someone explain the size designations? (am i understanding this right? the first number is the width, and the second number is somehow relative to tire diameter to rim diameter?)
I apologize if I'm undoubtedly the um-teenth person to ask a question of this sort, but after reading through posts I dug up through searches, I found myself nowhere closer to knowing where to start.
thanks for any help!
