View Full Version : Auto Insurance Woes
fc6666 04-06-2006, 04:50 AM Being that my car has a curse on it i was shopping around for auto insurance/cars,
I noted some strange things
USAA current insurance
02 WRX cursed - $690 per six months
02 WRX not mine - $482 per six months
05 STI - $2,304 per six months
04 EVO 8 - $390 per six months
GEICO
02 WRX - $795 per six months
05 STI - would not insure me
04 EVO 8 - would not insure me
23 yr s/m, CDL, no tickets in 5+yrs, no accidents
Also I came to the conclusion that Alaska is not the place to look at buying an EVO, $38,000 for a MR  I can go back to FL on leave, and buy the same car for $29,000, or get a 04 EVO for around $20,000. Supply and demand I guess.
And the salesman at Stanley was rude.
AKLGT 04-06-2006, 05:59 AM ah sorry.
ya, after my accident, my rates on the LGT went WAY up! guess i gotta pay them back the $4500! :( $500/yr more... ouch
XR4Tim 04-06-2006, 09:09 AM Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but at least it's a lot cheaper than my insurance. Wrecking cars is a lot of fun, but it sure isn't cheap.
Getagrip 04-06-2006, 12:13 PM Those rate quotes are all over the board
edo2000 04-06-2006, 12:22 PM Yeah, thanks for posting this. Good info, and it reminds me of a few things. That low quote on the evo 8 seems like an opportunity...
I'm over 40, also with a clean record, with correspondingly lower insurance rates, but I was recently quoted 2.5x the $ for insurance on an 05 STi vs. my 04 wrx. I decided the extra expense would bother me...
In a couple of years as the values of the STi's drop, the insurance will come down some(on used ones). But, the main problem is that, statistically, STi's are (for some unknown reason.... ) at higher risk to be wrecked, especially with a male driver. Oh well.
I hate rude car salesmen. Definitely makes me want to go out of my way to take my business elsewhere. But don't forget: with a high dollar car like an Evo or STi, you can estimate that every mile you put on it depreciates the value by $0.25, or more. Plus the fuel, maintenance and your time... although driving an Evo across the country would be a fun vacation, and for 10K difference, it still would be a good deal.

Need Money 04-06-2006, 01:33 PM I remember back when the sti first came out the insurance company's just considered it a basic impreza. Now that was some cheap insurance. You could just be a ricer thug and drive without insurance.LOL

Man your getting some good deal their for sure lol...I wish mine was even that for my wrx.. i should go to allstate sometime like FC did and see how much for an Evo or STi would be for me ...I think my jaw will drop but eh why not go and see i suppose.. I heard geiko is cheaper for teens but in FC's case it seems like they dont like his driving
OrionAK 04-07-2006, 02:06 PM $92 for the WRX, now $80 for the FXT.
Long-time plan holder, no accidents, no tickets, multi-car discount, multi-plan discount (for an additional 7 bucks a month they have some medical thing that drops the car insurance like 25 dollars, so you net an 18 dollar savings, but now we have the house on them, too). Then I got married and it dropped it further.
State Farm. Curtis green is my guy, but he's pretty useless...his staff, however do a great job. Called one time and he answered the phone...****er actually told me to call back when a secretary could answer. Because of that, when I have a moment, I'll call other folks and see if they can get me the same deal (or better?). If so, I'll probably swap just so that asshat doesn't get my money. But, again, his staff is the best, so maybe not...
Big-Sexy907 04-07-2006, 02:18 PM LOL... I think my problem is the tickets....
