I've been driving the car for awhile now and I finally got a Hall Effect vehicle speed sensor hooked up so now the car is not in limp mode, it is so much faster than the fast it already was.
I got a WRX airbox installed (thanks snowman for the donation) along with a wrx powersteering pump. I also finished my prototype TMIC splitter out of plexi-glass that I will eventually make a better cleaner more efficent one out of metal. I've had a vew problems, radiator started to leak, may have been a problem with to high a pressure radator cap, along with a creeking popping noise that either from the axles where they mate to the tranny or possibly from the rear control arm bushings. If anyone had some rear bushing I can borrow (maybe you upgraded to a ALK) so I can see if that's the problem, they would be my hero.
Here are some pictures:

I recently finished up my MY05 LGT drivetrain swap into my MY97 Impreza L wagon. I am running this swap with an MY04 ECUTEK STi ecu, using the LGT wiring harness wired up like the sti. The reflash has the car 17 psi. I am still dealing with a few small issues. The LGT tranny doesn't have a Vehicle speed sensor. The vendor that did the reflash told me they would remove the need for a Vehicle speed sensor. The didn't and so now the car is in safe mode untill this is addressed (only revs to 5,000 rpm. I am now working with ECUTEK directly to see if it's possible to remove it. I do need a speedo one way or another so I will be working something out soon. The LGT downpipe is much longer and I had to getto gut it and clamp it so the exhaust is not quite right. The LGT uses a differant powersteering reservoir and airbox than the WRX neither that make for a nice fit. These work for now untill I get some WRX pieces to replace them. I also need to make a custom deffuser for the TMIC from pieces for the LGT one, That in the works for the next week or two. This was a long project between stripping the LGT and selling off parts swapping the whole drivetrain, waiting two weeks for the ECU and other problems I encountered. I also did work on a bunch of members cars during my swap including a headgasket. I loved doing this and would deffinately do another in a heart beat.

Now on the pictures! (yes I know I need some body work but the body work money went to the swap)

Nice work! I know that was quite a pioneering project you had there. It looks good, get that sensor fixed and have fun! Congrats

will a wrx air box fit?
thinking the maf dimater may mess things up
i believe pdx guys noted that the lgt maf was larger than the sti

what sort of signal is the ecu looking for? could you send it a steady 40 mph via a simple tone generator?

i dunno how that works.... the 05 LGT has an immobilizer and the 04 sti doesnt? how is that handled?

I've never read anything about the maf being different. I'll have to look into that. I can always address that with a reflash. As to the VSS I'm hoping to hear from ECUTEK direct today about if they are able to remove the need for it. If not I think I will go with that magnetic speed sensor and conversion box I posted up before. I don't think a simple tone generator will work. The ecu is looking for an alternating 0 or 5 volts. I'm trying to also find out what the pulse is on the subarus. I remeber reading somewhere the LGT was 8 but that doesn't mean the STi is.

The MY04 Sti doesn't have the immobilizer and it's for this reason I chose it. I could have used the LGT setup if I had used the complete wiring harness. All previous subarus didn't use a CAN system and have the Body Intergrated Unit, so just creating an engine harness and merging it with your exhisting harness was the way to go. But with the CAN I really needed to have kept the LGT system fully intact and then merged things like my power windows and locks where they meet at the doors, ect. I found this out by tring to run the LGT ECU and it's immobilzer system unsuccessfully even though it was wired for immobilize system and such. I believe the Body Intergrated Unit which transfers the signal from the ignition was missing to many signals from other systems, and wouldn't allow it work.

For those following along it turns out I didn't have the FPR flipped 180 degrees it was the correct way origionally it was the feed and returns lines that were flipped as they entered the FPR. They are flipped on the LGT when they come from the firewall. I didn't know this till I got under a hood of a friends LGT.

looks pretty decent considering what you've accomplished. good luck getting the minor issues sorted.

This is... amazing. Ive never seen a swap like this, this is NOT the standard thing. Congratulations to you, holy ****, you must be proud.

A thought from a noob, if your having airbox problems, couldnt you just use a custom CAI?

Thanks, being the first has made somethings difficult but the end result is worth it. I'm going to try a WRX airbox. I think my ecu is still programmed for one not the LGT one, that is if they are differant. CAI have problems of their own on subaru turbo cars.

Ah ok, I knew they wernt the preferred route, but I didnt know they caused problems.

Best of luck.

Thanks guys, funny that most you last two are legacy owners. Having owned and driven the the swap came out of, I can say what a differance.

Nice swap :D

That’s definitely something different you got going on there. Glad to see you’re getting all the bugs worked out…

that is excellent work right there.... but what happened to the LGT??

The LGT got munched from the side, messed it up bad but left the crucial things alone. Now I only have two things left to make the swap 100% complete, new gauge cluster so I can use an electrical signal for speed, and I need a new 3 wire coolant temp sensor so the gauge works, not just the ecu getting the signal.

one thing to look out for cobb just released new maps for the LGT due to the intercooler getting major heat soak.. just be carefull when flogging car :)

Hmm, I read the LGT IC was more efficent than a WRX IC. I wonder if it has anything to do with the small hood scoop on the LGT? Maybe I will fair better with my hood scoop?
