View Full Version : preparation before waxing viodea 10-03-2001, 11:23 AM I want to put a few coat of wax on my car but I can't do all these in one night. So, I have to do it once a night. The problem is this is my only car. I have to drive it to work. Do I have to wash my car throughly every time? Is there any better way? Can I just dust it off? What about just rinse it off with water and dry it? The car doesn't get too dirty but I'm worry the dust will kill my paint. thanks Poseidon 10-03-2001, 11:59 AM Get some quick detailing spray, like Eagle One Wet Wipe'n Shine. Spray it on and use a microfiber towel to get rid of any dust before you put on an additional coat. Be gentle, though, so you don't scratch it. Good Idea to also use paint prep before ever waxing to remove and paint sealents that were in previous wax jobs or other car wash products. whitewag 10-04-2001, 03:15 AM when putting multiple coats of wax on a car it's good to wait 24 hours for the wax to cure, before adding another coat. If it were my car, I would wash it before I waxed it again, but that's because it get's really dusty in one day over here. viodea 10-04-2001, 09:51 AM I just wax my car last night (after washing it throughly). I left the wax on for 2 or 3 hours because of the cooler weather. I notice there are little objects (feels like dust) all over the car. I can't see them but I can feel them. Is it due to leaving the wax on for a long time? I didn't feel that after I washed the car. Also, how to get rid of them? SubEd 10-04-2001, 10:01 AM Is it bits of dried wax that brush off? Wish I'd gotten here sooner, I recommend a good clay bar treatment before you wax on, wax off. viodea 10-04-2001, 10:05 AM Yeah, the wax was dried. I did use clay bar but not all over the car. I just used that for those hard to remove stuff on the paint. Should I use clay bar all over? It's really time consuming. SubEd 10-04-2001, 10:12 AM Time consuming? I found it to be a very quick process. Spray on lube, wipe. Did the clay stick? viodea 10-04-2001, 10:19 AM No, I use a lot of soapy water. Usually it takes a minute or 2 for a square foot. So, for the whole car will be like.... looong. The problem I got was I have only about 2 hours to wash and wax it. It's hard to wax it in a tight garage. I removed the wax and put on a coat of Z-7 in the garage and it's a paint in the ass :( |
