Brand new 06 Impreza sedan. I mean brand new! Not even 300 miles on it yet.

Whenever coming to a stop, a vibrating or rattling noise starts in the passenger side... sounds like up underneath the glove box... is that where the heater blower motor is? The sound is kinda like sticking a playing card in a bicycle spoke... steady speed, doesn't speed up or slow down.

Doesn't seem to matter if the air is turned on or not. Any time the car comes to a stop, the noise will start. Start driving again, and it will stop.

Any ideas or suggestions? I'd like to check it out myself if it's going to be something quick and simple... the nearest dealer is a bit of a inconvenience to get to.

TIA! :)

more knowledgable people here then me on this but,

#1 - 300 miles on car take it to the stealer

the air filter for the cabin air is accessed by removing the glove box in my 02. Does you car have this dealer installed option?? Do don't think you hear a difference when stopped with the cabin air off vs. low or high speed??

Something trapped in the air vent maybe, make a difference between recycled air or fresh (from the outside) air??

good luck

the sound doesn't seem to change, regardless what air setting is on... as the car comes to a stop, and comes to idle, the noise will start. once you rev the motor, it will stop... maybe it's dependent on the certain vibrations the motor makes at idle?

I'm surprised no one else has chimed in....

1. (take it to the stealer and let him investigate)
or
2. (look at the air filter location on your 06, on the 02 is above the glove box, subaruparts.com has an install guide for the air filtration kit for 2002+ impreza's located here (you must make an account to access it): air filtration install (http://www.subaruparts.com/guides/2004MY_Impreza_Air_Filtration_Rev_a.pdf)

Let me chime in.... No matter how quiet is your new car, but at some point, some other places WILL rattle for no reasons. My car, 04 A/T WRX Wagon, purchased in Auguest 04, now almost 40k miles. I've been to dealership several times to fix the passenger side front door trim rattle noise. The noise gone for couple months, and started coming up again, but it was just me being picky so now I can tolerate the subtle noise...

Now, noise from driver side front door trim, rattling between the VIN# plate and dash trim, occasional rattling-like noise from fan at position 4, rattling noise from the trunk springed/retractable cover (not the trunk door tho)...
Still, lots of my friends sat in my car and they didn't notice the noise.

my 06 sti rattles at random places and comes and goes. i just turn up the radio. you should take it back to the dealer if you think its bad or it bothers you.
