I ALWAYS perform all work on my cars, but I've never worked on a Subaru before.

Anyways, when changing the oil do I have to replace that little metal crush ring that's around the oil pan drain plug?

The guy at the dealer told me that I have to change it everytime I change the oil. Does that sound right?

Officially yes, but I've reused it without anything leaking. Also, the search button is your friend. Many topics, including this one, have already been discussed exhaustively.

LOL...I replaced the crush washer for the first time EVER this past weekend. Prior to that I have changed the oil on MANY cars, MANY different cars and have never had a problem NOT using a new crush washer each time.

Prior to getting a Fumoto drain valve, I never replaced the crush ring. No leaks, no problems.

Cheap insurance for me. In a pinch I would reuse but I like new. Good dealers will usually give you one when you buy an oil filter. I just buy a dozen from www. subaruguineparts.com
