View Full Version : Cobb Tuning has released a FP16G specific map for the 2002-2003 WRX MT...
Christian. 04-13-2006, 03:06 PM I wanted to let you know the FP16G calibration for the 2002-2003 WRX MT has been released and is available for free downloading from our web site = http://www.cobbtuning.com/wrx/accessport/20index.html
Please be sure to thoroughly read the map notes prior to using this map. We have composed these map notes to help educate end users about several pieces of hardware we have specified including the FP16G turbo and the size of the hole in the restrictor pill. This map is specifically designed to work with the Forced Performance brand of turbo chargers. We want to do everything we can to ensure that the performance of these maps is consistent and optimal; we will be paying attention to this thread to address any questions you may have concerning this calibration.
Take care,
Christian.

Christian,
The link only shows the 2002-2005 maps in the link. Are you going to put it up for the 2006 as stated above?
Thanks
EDIT: I'm guessing this is a simple typo and you meant the 2002-03 WRX instead.
anthonyrb98 04-13-2006, 03:25 PM so what are the hp/tq ratings supposedly?
NC06TR 04-13-2006, 03:28 PM read the map notes...it's all there and then some
wow pretty lean in the mid range ...
any chances of getting a chart that has the idc, and advance as well as boost and a/f
both my computer at work and home can bearly read the green on the boost chart
good work christian

jland67 04-13-2006, 09:52 PM Christian,
1.The map notes specify Denso/STI pink fuel injectors. Are the Denso injectors you are referring to the 06 WRX injectors?
2. Will getting the 16G ported affect the map?
3. You are referring to the small 16g that FP sells, correct?
Thanks,
Jeremy
Christian. 04-14-2006, 01:54 AM 1.The map notes specify Denso/STI pink fuel injectors. Are the Denso injectors you are referring to the 06 WRX injectors?
The Denso/STi fuel injectors we specified are not the 2006 WRX fuel injectors (or we would have stated that) ;) The 2006 WRX injectors are not Denso/STi pink fuel injectors. The pink Denso/STi (JDM) fuel injectors are the only fuel injectors we specified to be compatible with this calibration. These fuel injectors are direct replacements for the stock 2002-2003 WRX fuel injectors. I read what I just typed and it sounds like I am being harsh, and I am not trying to be...we just need to be very exact about the hardware specifications.
2. Will getting the 16G ported affect the map?
Yes, I would only use the standard Forced Performance 16G turbo. ANY modification to that turbo would not be withing the specifications so we cannot say the mapping will perform properly.
3. You are referring to the small 16g that FP sells, correct?
We are refering to the standard Forced Performance 16G, 510CFM, turbo.
Take care,
Christian.
clamdip 04-15-2006, 01:46 AM christian,
could this map be used with any small 16G? i have one off an older WRX and i just need it to be rebuilt and modify the inlet. will this work? good info though! :D
remowgn 04-15-2006, 02:37 AM Holy moly... just read through the "map notes"... awesome information! While using a dial indicator is probably out of the realm of most people that would use an OTS map, it's still great to see. So tempting to go with the 16g now... I wouldn't have to get it protuned right off the bat. :D

I cannot say it will work because we did not test that exact combination. Although, I completed extensive documentation to show how a properly functioning 16G turbo should work. Just check your unit against those #s, the closer your turbo is to the unit we used for this calibration, the better. We chose a standard 16G because that is what it is...standard. This unit should come from an MHI distributor and should perform consistently, this is one reason we chose this turbo. We did not want to deal with hand parting, coating, special WG, etc. because all of this degrades the consistency of the turbo.
Take care,
Christian.
txl146 04-15-2006, 01:00 PM I have dyno'd my car with Cobb OTS stage 2.5 map on my car (VF34). Car dyno'd 255whp and 262 ft-lbs. I would expect 16G to put more power on the dyno...
My tuner told me Cobb OTS map works very effectively.

thanks Christian! i'll check the numbers and see. :)

this is roughly what STi's are putting down stock, if i'm not mistaken.
Twiztidunreal 04-17-2006, 03:44 AM nothing for the 04 automatics with modded stock injectors?? lol any any combo of that

Christian your response was not harsh at all. I understand the need to follow the hardware specs.
The map notes refer to a STi TMIC or equivalent. I have a Spearco TMIC, would it be to large for the 16G map?
Thanks,
Jeremy

The Spearco TMIC should be fine, I have tuned vehicles with that TMIC before and they performed well.
Take care,
Christian.
jland67 04-29-2006, 12:31 AM Is anyone running this map yet? I have a set pinks and spearco IC, just needing to get a turbo. How much more power will this setup give over the V34 map?
Jeremy
daveyboy 08-12-2006, 11:07 PM I wanted to revive this old thread to see what results people have been getting with this map.
navyissuesuby 09-10-2006, 01:19 PM Bump for that one. I want to see what kind of power difference people are getting with the 16g over the VF34

if i'm not mistaken, i think the peak power of a VF34 compared to a 16G is quite the same, however, spool-up on a 16g is a little better. i'm wondering if i can download the small 16g map and tune for a big 16g. that would be pretty awesome.

That calibration should work just fine for a starting point, just follow the tuning guide and use the worksheet (http://www.cobbforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31091) to help you with the intake calibration. I would also set your WGDCs super low and move up from there.
Take care,
Christian.

wrxgti 11-27-2006, 01:08 AM just wondering if anyone modded this map for the big 16g 550cfm with bigger injectors like 650?
Mach742 02-13-2008, 10:18 PM So, is that a no on turbine housing ceramic coating?
