View Full Version : MRT Header
flent 10-03-2001, 11:35 PM I have been looking into a header for my car.. I do not like the feedback im getting on the borla header.. has anyone here looked into the headers from mrt.. aprox. price and are they a good header,,,
also what is another company that makes a good header if any..
Thanks
The MRT headers require replacement of the entire exhaust system.
suby ej25 10-04-2001, 09:41 AM will i be able to use the mrt header with the catback apexi n1?
Julian 10-04-2001, 11:09 AM The MRT header allows you to use the same back box as stock (or whatever bolts up to stock), but the mid-pipe is an exclusive piece, as it doesn't match the stock mid-pipe pick up point.
For info on the MRT setup, please search. I've posted a huge thread about it with pictures and full impressions.
If you have any other questions not answered by the MRT posts already out there, just let me know.

This is why.

You could possibly weld a different muffler on there but what would really be the point.
Let me know if the picture came out. I have been having problems with Yahoo Photos.

Julian 10-04-2001, 02:45 PM Pic doesn't work. People have used the stock back box on the MRT system, and the MRT back box on a stock system, so I don't know what your picture is going to show to prove that impossible...
Patrick Olsen 10-04-2001, 03:25 PM I'm with Julian on this one. The MRT midpipe joins up to the muffler section in the stock location - I used my stock muffler with the MRT system for a few weeks with no problems.
Now, I think MRT may only sell the exhaust as a complete system, but I'm not sure on that. At the very least you would need to buy the MRT header and MRT midpipe, the muffler section could come from anywhere - Stromung, STi, stock, whatever. The only exception I know of is the Brullen, which apparently requires the use of a Brullen midpipe, which of course wouldn't mate up with the MRT header.

Fusion 10-04-2001, 03:45 PM How are the CELs going guys? Any updates? :)

jetfire67 10-04-2001, 03:48 PM my CE light is still going strong since labor day!! lol!! that was one month AFTER i installed the system...
Julian 10-04-2001, 05:15 PM I've since wrapped the header (as shown in my original post) and the CE light has returned twice out of two resets. And those CE lights occured on relatively warm mornings (~55-60 degree mornings).
The header is just too long and made of mild-steel. Us '00 and '01 guys still seem to be the only ones affected. It's not a big deal, though I did buy the Harrison OBDII scan tool to be able to check/reset the CE light without doing the pull-the-battery-lose-my-presets deal.
Still like the power. Still like the sound. Keeping the stock system for the eventual smog check.
MY99 2.5GT 10-04-2001, 05:27 PM Right click the little white box with the red x in it and go to properties. Copy the link into your browser and you will find a nice photo of the MRT header back system.

Julian 10-04-2001, 07:27 PM Oh yeah? Take this!

ImpreziveRS 10-05-2001, 10:44 AM What's so wrong with the Borla header? I haven't really researched into headers for my car yet, but I just would like to know.

ME and my CE light are still united. The good news is, my harrison obd2 scanner is on it way (should have it monday :) )
you know what that means? I get to clear my own code, and... just maybe figure out why it's happeing. Go data logging!!!

Ah, about the MRT system. I'm happy with it. Price is right, however if you live in the salt belt, then I recomend getting it coated in some fashion (so it'll last). Other than that, and the CE, well I'm happy.
HerbMayer 10-05-2001, 11:01 PM I've been looking at the same thing for a while? I'm going to copy the mart header on my 01 RS. I made my own piping from the cat back all mandrel bends. It seem's to work as good as aney of the other system's out their. I used two and a half piping and it only pop's a litle bit. I don't know what size pipe they are using on the mart header? But I know in the air cooled vw world you go a quoter inch biger then the exaust port to get the porper scaveging. If I don't get enough back pressure I'll make a venturi just after the header. So I'll give it a try and let you guy's know how it turns out? I'm only looking at about $100 buck's or so for parts. And some time to bild it and find out.
