so i looked on cobbs website and they have a map for stage 2 california, and stage 2 91 octane. arent these maps the same? if not whats the difference?

cali's 91 oct might not be as good as another states 91....

The CA 91 map is tuned down slightly for the crappy CA gas, and yes CA's 91 gas is in general worse than other states'.
Some people would get knocking with the regular 91 map while some don't. you can go ahead and try using the regular map and see if you get knocking. i ran the regular map for about a month, and even though i didn't experience any knock, i switched to the CA map just to be safe. in fact i didn't even really experience a loss of power after switching to the CA map.

i know in the fact everyone else knows that. but i dont live in cali, nor have i ever been there.

thanks everyone for the info. i guess i will run 91 octane map, and see if i experience any knock. if i do ill switch to ca 91 map.

i have a kinda off-topic question. if someone with a 2005 WRX got a protune w/ just a TBE.. would that map be better than a OTS Map if i was to use it as well or would i just blow something up?

way better if you get a protune.... an OTS is something made to make everyones car happy.... a protune is for YOUR car...

i wouldnt even risk running the 91 octane with your car if you live in Cali.. its not worth the risk.

To tell the truth I couldn't even really feel a difference. at first i thought i did rite after i switched to the CA 91 map but i think that's just psychological cuz i was predisposed to the fact that the CA map must be a lot weaker. then i loaded the regular 91 map back and it felt exactly the same. i am still running the CA map now though cuz i don't want to take any risk.

its funny I cant remember off the top of my head since I deleted everything I didnt need, which would have included the CA maps.

But with the power package you get the TBE and Cobb AP. You can download any OTS map from Cobb for free for your 06.

You can download the basemap for 91ca before or after you marry it too the car. There is a "trick" to download/alter map selection to an un-married AP thats outlined in the AP owners manual.

So if you plug in the AP and you see the appropriate map then your good to go. If not its going to add 10 minutes to your install time as you run inside and download the map too the AP.

I would recommend plugging the AP in before you install the TBE and seeing if the appropriate map is on there.

I really want to say its on there though. I thought it had 6 basemaps STG 1 93, STG 2 93, STG 1 91, STG 2 91, STG 1 91 CA, STG 2 91 CA

u have to get it off the cobb site. the AP just has stage 1 91, stage 1 93, stage 2 91, and stage 2 93. and a few other useless maps. but a street tuner or protune will definatally yield better results.

a buddy of mine has it and he drives the same car u do. he hit a 13.7 on the track. i dont know what your car does stock but i hope thats the results u would be looking for (he also sucks at driving)

a stock 06 can catch up to my stage 2. If an 06 with stage 2, those numbers are decent!!!

yeah I guess I do. I ordered everything seperately though. You dont HAVE to have Cobb's Turbo-back exhaust. Any downpipe will work. The cat-back is basically just a sound thing at least running at the Cobb Stg 2 level.

I went with Cobbs turbo-back exhaust though just because I like there products.

To answer your question I love it. I ran a 13.84 stock and a 13.19 with the Cobb Stg 2 + Kartboy SS being my only mods done to the car. So I knocked about 6 tenths off my 1/4 with room for improvment on my behave. I willing to bet someone will pull a 13 flat or even a 12.x on the stock turbo. Sounds nice to, but on occasion I'll hear another WRX driving by that I like the sound of a tad bit more.

i lucked out i guess, i am in the army and i went to iraq and afganistan respectfully, i came back with my savings and went to work. its what i love!
