View Full Version : Looking for someone who has their dash torn out/ willing to trace two wires for me

I'm trying to trace two wires that come from a '04 WRX gauge cluster. These two wires are both from the i10 (center) connector on the cluster. The first is white w/black in the #10 position and the second is red w/white in the #26 position.

I need to know what their functions are.

I would trace it myself except that I don't have the instrument panel wiring harness, just the cut pigtails coming off of the gauge cluster.

I would be ever grateful if someone could trace these two wires for me. Or, if someone in the Seattle area has a wrx harness or a car that is opened up, I would be willing to trace the wires myself, provided they let me of course.

Thanks!

Yep, still looking for information on these two wires. Thanks!

do you just need to know where they come out of the cluster wiring harness? Or what the function is? I've got the wiring book for an 04 at home, so it'll be a few hours till i can look :)

I just need to know what their functions are or where they go to in the end. Is it a ground? Power? Gas door light? Low muffler fluid warning light? Etc.

Are you looking at the back of the connector (wire side) and counting upper right as B1 and lower left as B30?

I am looking at my diagram and I don't see a B10 or B26 off hand. I can send you the diagram if you shoot me an email address.

Yep, I'm looking at the connector just as you described. Just like in the Subaru Service Manual. In fact, if you look REALLY closely, there is are little numbers marking the positions on the wire side of the connector.

When veiwed as described above, on the top row, fifth position in from the left, #10 is a white w/black wire and on the bottom row, also fifth position in from the left, #26 is a red w/white wire.

I couldn't find either of these wires or positions listed on any diagram either.

I have no clue where these go.

UTCiv, do you have another diagram other than the Subaru Manual?

Nah, thats all I got. Without going through all of the non-STI sections and looking for the combination meter references, I got nothing. It seems you have done that though.

I as well, cannot find any of those wires you listed.. If you are talking about B10 + B26

If you go 5 to the left, while looking into the connector (the way the subaru manual shows the connector at the bottom of the page), i get B5 and B19

Those 2 pins do have spots in the combo meter.. B19 is for the brake fluid level and e-brake switch. B5 is for Automatics, for the tranny temp warning light.

But B5 is YG, and B19 is RY.. So i don't think those are it obviously. Guess my next question is..

Are the cluster harnesses different between model years? Positive its an 04?

UTCiv, thanks for trying, I appreciate it.

subbyspeed, Yeah, I got #'s B5 and B19. I'm talking about the opposite side of the connector, 5 in from the left side of the connector. In other words, 5 TO THE RIGHT of the LEFT SIDE of the connector. Confused? So am I. However you look at it, going by the Subaru manual's way of listing the pins, it's position B10 and B26. That much I'm sure of.

It's kind of crazy that no one seems to know anything about these two wires, don't ya think?

yes i agree^^

i tried 5 over from both sides of the connector, just to make sure. Even checked the STi diagram to double check.. Still nothin.

Thats my curiosity for wondering if a single model year or 2 would change the harness that much. :alien:

I'm 99% sure that it came from a USDM, '04 WRX. I took it of a wrecked car myself (wrecked car no longer around).

I even went so far as to pay for a 72 hour subscription on the Subaru Technical Information System sight. I checked the wiring diagrams of EVERY year of WRX and STi and still came up with nothing. Now, I'm not saying that I didn't miss it in there somewhere, but I was pretty thorough.

I would except that I'm a few months away from actually putting the motor in. I just built my wiring harness before hand and would like to incorporate these two wires if they are necessary. If I still don't have an answer by the time I'm ready, I will just plug it in and hope.

gotcha.

now that i think about it, i think i still have the cluster harness from an 04 at home. I'll check this week, and see if those wires are on there. :)
