Any inputs on switching from my normal oil (Mobil 1 5w30) to the Royal Purple oil? I've used Mobil for about 30k miles now, and have had no problems. I'm also debating if I should use Royal Purple 75w90 gear oil when I change fluid in my transmission and rear diff. I have heard rumors of abmormaly high wear using Royal Purple products if the fluids are not changed on an absolutly religious basis. My hope was that perhaps Royal Purple gear oil will help with the can't-downshift-into-first-at-anythig-but-a-crawl problem. Any experience would be greatly appreciated.

I use royal purp 5w30 all the time, i buy it by the case off of ebay.I havent had even the sligthest problem.I dont know if its better then mobil i just tend to use prodcuts that arnt so massed produced like mobil. as far as the gear oil goes thats something that i havent tried but i may need to, because with my RA gears in my 02 i cant downshift into first unless im close to a complete stop and it really sucks but i never herd that it might be caused by the gear oil. So im going to switch over and see if it helps if it does ill post a review on it

A few years ago a commonly quoted article about oil entitled "More than you ever wanted to know about motor oil" was posted all over the web. That article was written by Ed Hackett, WRX owner and Royal Purple user.
He's been using various RP engine oils over the years with decent success and is now switching to German Castrol Syntec 0W30 (search over at bobistheoilguy.com).
