View Full Version : 2006 STI Oil Filter
Duckhead 04-19-2006, 04:42 PM Hey folks. I just turned 3000 miles on my STI. However I am having a hard time finding part numbers for an aftermarket oil filter. Can anyone reccomend a good aftermarket filter (and part number) as well as what oil are you folks using? Typically on my other Sube's I was using Mobil 1 20w50 for the summer. Thanks in advance!
nhluhr 04-19-2006, 04:48 PM The OEM filter is better than most you will find.
However if you're looking for something you can buy at the parts store, you simply cannot beat the Purolator PL14610.
Unabomber 04-19-2006, 05:33 PM If you post in the right forum and read the sticky threads in the right forum, you'd have an answer immediately as well as not clog the forums with your dribble. I'll move this, next time search around!
I third and fourth the Purolator L14160 or the PureOne PL14610. Good stuff, good filter. Larger than stock, pretty good quality. :)
Duckhead 04-19-2006, 05:37 PM Thanks those that replied... Unabomber, eat me, typical mod with a "whitty" reply. Tell you what do me a favor and delete the thread. I'll use google. Thanks for nothing...
Unabomber is a little sick of noobs posting in incorrect places, that's all, don't get yer panties in a knot. But he's cool and he's like a two-legged walking Subaru bible

wow so sensitive.
Unabomber 04-19-2006, 06:21 PM So sensitive indeed. No need to get all huffy with the person that has researched oil filters more than anyone else on the forums. :( If you break a forum rule, man up and admit it.

I checked Purolator's site and came up with PL14612 for an 05 STi. I assume it's the difference between the WRX and STi, since they don't have an STi in the search. At any rate, here' s my search criteria:
http://www.pureoil.com/ProductFinder.aspx?action=AS
Subaru > Impreza WRX > 2005
Results:
4 cyl. 2.5L F.I. H.O. Turbo (EJ257) (VIN 7)
PureONE Oil - PL14612
PureONE Air - PA24278
Premium Plus Oil - L14612
Premium Plus Air - A24278
Anyone know the difference between the PL14610 and the PL14612 or the L14610 and the L14612?

It is the same thread size. The PL14612 is just a little longer than the PL14610 (more capacity) that's all, but both screw in just fine. ;)
Evil STI 04-19-2006, 06:48 PM I've used the Purolator PL14610 and the PL14612 exclusively in my 2006 STI. The differences between the two is that the PL14610 is roughly 5/8" longer, which I now use in the summer.

^You have them mixed up.^
nhluhr 04-19-2006, 06:58 PM yep - the 14610 is the longer one. took me awhile to finally get that straight in my head. . .
Oh crap, I stand corrected... Either one will do fine ;)
silverbetty 04-20-2006, 10:23 AM Great, thanks for clearing up the difference between the two filters.
