about 2 weeks ago my car threw 3 codes(P0420, P0302, and P0136)

since then heres what ive done to solve the problems:
new OEM/NGK spark plugs $12
new NGK power cable spark plug wires $50
new OEM front oxygen sensor $75
new oem fuel filter $15
new pcv valve $3
new K&N drop in air filter $45
GP Moto mechanical CEL fix for rear 02 sensor $30
gutted rear cat

i know alot of that stuff has nothing to do with the problems but i figured id get some of the routine maintence out of the way too.

after i instaled all that stuff i drove for 8 miles before i get a code P0302 again...WHAT THE f**K is the problem!!!!

i called a subaru service advisor and they suggested a cracked plug...so i figure what the hell..i went and picked up 4 more new oem NGK plugs..if this dosent fix it i dont know what to do.

i have a code scanner and i clear the codes before i work on the car and i check for codes after i install a part and test drive the car.

maybe resetting the whole ecu will solve the problem?

does the ecu store the codes and think there is still somthing wrong even though i replaced what is supposed to fix the problem?

resetting the ecu is as simple as disconnecting the battery for a few minutes correct?

what else can i do to fix a cyl 2 misfire?

Can you check the ignition coil? If you want to reset the ECU just disconnect the neg. battery cable and press the brake peddle several times to discharge the unit. Start the engine and let idle for several minutes ( I don't know why) and shut off. The ECU has now been reset.

i checked the coil by resting my hand on it while the car was running..no shock..spark at all 4 cylinders.

i didnt know that i had to press the brake while the negative cable was off..nor did i know i had to start it, let it run and then shut it off to reset it.

i just disconnected the negative cable and re-connected it after i was finished working on the car.

is it possible that the codes stay stored in the ecu since i dont discharge the system? and when i re-start the car they show up again because the ecu thinks they still might be a problem that needs to eb adressed?

....the knock sensor may be dying/dead

isnt there a code for the knock sensor?

where is the knock sensor located and how would i test it?

sounds like a bad injector or a soft cylinder to me. Run a bottle of injector cleaner thru it and see what happens.

its not the injector...ive allready ruled that out...gonna do a valve adjustment next and if that dosent fix it thats one less thing it could be.

i cant believe that such a common problem has no fix...i have to honestly say that im not happy with subaru and this common crap that has no definate answer.

well don't feel bad, at least your RS didn't drop a valve because the aftermarket cam that was in it failed....that's why i now have a WRX swap

....try unplu/re-plug the crank angle sensor....sometimes they die or even the mounting bracket can get bent

i was reading my subaru factory service manual...the crank angle sensor is what can throw misfire codes.

i hope your on to somthing with the crank angle sensor :)

PO302.... that sounds familiar..

i've gotten those codes when i first installed my fidanza flywheel.. i've been getting the same problem

car is 100% stock as far as engine or emissions goes

i would suggest trying a better set of ignition wires(factory set), i know NGK usually makes good stuff but i have seen wires from then crack and arc out at times/

ive seen subaru wires crack and arc too..

ngk makes oem wires..the wires arent the problem, the plugs arent the problem, the oxygen sensors arent the problem, the coil isnt the problem, the knock sensor isnt the problem, the crank position sensor isnt the problem, he injectors arent the problem...what the fuk is the problem? and why cant subaru fix it either?

tried a known good ECU yet? you should do a cylinder leak down test as well as a compression test.

i think my ecu works fine....when i got the car (feb 11th) i never had a CEL until the first week of april...now im getting the P0302 constantly

i will do a compression test and a leak down test as well as a valve adjustment this week.
