Did a little bit of research on NA motor.
I thought it is interesting.

USDM EG33 = 230 (H6 3.3)
USDM EZ30 DOHC = 212 horsepower (H6 3.0)
USDM EJ25 SOHC = 165 (MY99)
USDM EJ25 DOHC = 165 (MY98)
USDM EJ25 = 155 (MY96)
USDM EJ22 = 142 (MY99)
USDM EJ22 = 137 (MY97)
USDM EJ22 = 135 (MY95)
USDM EJ22 = 130 (MY94)
USDM EJ18 = 110
JDM EG33 DOHC = 240 (H6 SVX 3.3)
JDM EZ30 DOHC = 220 (H6 BH Legacy Lancaster6 -which is outback)
JDM EZ30-R DOHC AVCS + DirectValveLiftControl = 250 (H6 BP/ Legacy)
JDM EJ25 DOHC AVCS = 170 (BE/BH Legacy B4 RS25/Lancaster/250S)
JDM EJ25 DOHC AVCS = 167 (SF Forester T/25)
JDM EJ25 DOHC =175 (BE/BH Legacy 250T MY97)
JDM EJ22 SOHC = 135
JDM EJ20 DOHC AVCS = 190 (BP/BL Legacy 2.0R)
JDM EJ20 DOHC AVCS = 155 (BE/BH Legacy B4 RS / Impreza NA)
JDM EJ20 SOHC *Leanburn*= 137 (base model Legacy/Forester)
JDM EJ18 SOHC = 120
OCSA DROMOS EJ25 = 187 (this car is Italian MR concept car)

--original post 2001, updated in 2004--

EZ30 is now equipped with AVCS (valve timing) and DirectValveLiftControl (lift). Its similar to i-VTEC or VVTL-i .
Cant wait to see this in 2.0liter.

JDM NA EJ20 is 190ps
and JDM EZ30R H6 is 250ps now!
US EJ25 is still 165

I see you've been doing your homework, junior. Pretty interesting stuff, really. I want a 2.2 now.:D

What's messed is
US2.5 is 165 and JDM 2.0 is 155

there's a perfectly good reason for this.

no version of the EJ25 has ever been built with peak output in mind, which would benefit the impreza platform.

the engines are instead tuned for low-end and midrange torque, especially at part throttle, which makes them ideally suited for the forester and outback platforms.

it's too expensive for the average end-user to really try to fix what's wrong with the NA EJ25 though. past a certain point, you need a new intake manifold, headers, etc. since I haven't seen many posts where folks are showing off their self-built sheetmetal or CF intake manifolds, I'd say that unless FHI ever does something officially nothing is going to happen here.

Funny, we also have the 120ps EJ18 here in Taiwan, book says to run it on 92... but the EJ25's are the same 165ps unit you get :(
Gonna have to shop in Japan for the AVCS one.

The USDM EJ22 that ran from 1990-1994 had 130-132 hp.

you should put torque #'s on there, and at what rpm the max torque & hp is reached ;)

where is the 00-01 EJ22 , 155HP

Note the date of the original post ;)

I was thinking, with that JDM 190ps EJ20, somone could swap in a 2.5 block, make over 200hp N/A rather simply...

that makes sense now lol yes time to update
I think the turbo legacy block (EJ22T old legacy)would be nice build, raise the CR up ,O ring some NA heads.... a lot of potential there

nice thread you are still missing at least 3 flavors of USDM SOHC 2.5

USDM EJ25 SOHC = ~165/?? (MY05) maf
USDM EJ25 SOHC = ~165/?? (MY02) ????
USDM EJ25 SOHC = ~165/165 (MY00) map
USDM EJ25 SOHC = 165/165 (MY99) maf
USDM EJ25 DOHC = 165/160 (MY98) maf

would also add that the EZ30-r has 3 exaust port per head
the sohc is only has 2 ports

edit *old thread bump owns me*

JDM EJ20 DOHC AVCS = 190 (BP/BL Legacy 2.0R)

I did some conversion...tell me if I am wrong
190hp @7200RPM
~140 lbft of torque @4400-4800RPM

I would not mind having this motor in my RS instead of the N/A EJ25 instead...I wonder if this would smooth out the driving experience a little bit especially with the short ratio of the RS gearbox (I have never liked how the short gears match up with a truck-like N/A 2.5L :( )

JDM EJ25 DOHC AVCS = 170 (BE/BH Legacy B4 RS25/Lancaster/250S)
avcs only adds 5 hp? i thought it would do more...but i still want that head and ECU~ :p

JDM EJ20 DOHC AVCS = 155 (BE/BH Legacy B4 RS / Impreza NA)
some guy on nasioc has this engine (sorry forget his name).
7000rpm redline is hot!

two more addition to the list:

USDM EJ25 SOHC = 168 hp (MY05 legacy 2.5i)
USDM EJ25 SOHC/AVCS(??) = 173 hp (MY06 forester/MY06 Impreza)

 in my country we have the NA EJ20R since 2005, which is redlined @ 7600 rpm :D I wish that my 04 impreza had that engine, its way faster than mine :( even with I/H/E and PP6 (( I have NA EJ203, which is SOHC and makes 120hp only  ))

Ya, i'd like to get my hands on one of those EJ20R's... But I didnt realize Subaru had an N/A EJ motor with that high of a redline back when they first came out.

I read a thread that 190ps = 150 hp on this engine

1 pferdestarke = 0.9863201 horsepower so its pretty close to 1:1. Doing the math its around 187hp.
