well people say you dont need it i say the latter....
i have a friend with a mt 00 or 01 Impreza coupe he has a intake and exhaust, as well as pullies from suby sports. i in my auto am faster and we race each other all the time. i zero'd out my S-AFCi one day and reset my ecu as well... time went by and i never reset my AFC settings. we hit the interstate here and i got to aboot 85mph and it just didnt pull like she usually would.. i was confused:confused: then i looked down to see i never put my settings i have found to work the best for me. i went out and with my settings it pulled wayyyy better to well over 115mph+ on the same stretch of the high-way we went on. now i am back to whoopin his mt arse:devil:
just a lil somthing i found out to share with you all. thanks for reading.

It's good to hear that us 98's are still in the running, I'm also thinking about getting a s-afci, but I was wondering what other modifications you have on your RS.

Cheers,
Stu

Ah! Also planning on getting the Apexi S-AFC :)
Only question though is DO I need a A/F gauge? I mean to have is nice, but is it a MUST?

Thanks, and btw...an easy job to do for MY98?

You can't tune the SAFC without having an EGT or A/F meter. You have no idea how you should set the SAFC correctly without knowing the fuel ratio.

i got an a/f gauge and an egt when i got my s-afc. IMO the a/f gauge is more useful than the egt when tuning. it's still difficult to get the afc settings perfect(and they seem to work better some days than others, due to weather maybe)because the a/f readings jump around so much, but you can do it. i feel the egt would be great to tune with if you could run at a constant speed, probably top speed, and make changes to your afc at the same time. that way you could lean your mixture to the max and just richen it back up to your liking. this however doesn't seem to smart unless you live near the bonneville salt flat. i've also talkd to guys who tune their afc at the drag strip, but this seems inaccurate, and pretty hard on your car.hope my ramblings help.

man i love my 98 with 2k front bumper.... well people. i have
jcsports intake (yellow of course!)
N1 exhaust from www.imprezars.com larry ganz.
and yes a A/F meter
although i have zero'd out the S-AFCi you can definitly feel the difference with it tuned and zero'd out.
also front and rear strut bars, yellow 18mm rear sway bar and painted calipers:cool:
my test to 85+mph was the most dramatic showing on how the AFC does make a differance. my friend in his rs knew something was ary when i wasnt pulling as much as i usually do.
