View Full Version : Anything in Ogden UT?
Dragicon 04-25-2006, 07:55 PM So I will be moving there in the beginning of August and I was curious if there is anything to do for a 22yr old single dude... Any hot spots for college age kids? Any good bars to go to? Any good places to live? The list goes on and on. I am just a little worried that my current lifestyle in that i live in Boulder CO will crash and burn when i get to Ogden. Please guys, help me out. There are at least people who i can hang with that have a wrx right....?
Sandkicker 04-25-2006, 08:17 PM Hmm, i live in SLC but having grown up in Ogden but having been to Boulder a few times and had a blast every time i've been there, I'd say you'll probably be a little bored with the city/night-life in Ogden, but if you're into much outdoorsy stuff you'll have enough going on to keep you entertained. We've got rivers/lakes a short drive away and trails along the foothills or into the mountains pretty close. About the only bars your likely to end up at are a few downtown on 25th street which are fun on decent nights, usually hoppin on the weekend, but most bars in the Ogden area tailor to pretty diverse crowds simply since there's not an influx of bars as you've got in Boulder, so to many folks they're a kinda weird scene. And, i'll say that most Ogden bars are pretty much along the lines of "dive-bars". If you're into the dance-club type bars you're kinda screwed other than a club called Teazers which is usually a little more ghetto than it is a danceclub, but might be more your style, hard to tell. Ogden kids love their cars although most are pretty ghetto civics/eclipses but also handfuls of WRXs/Subarus. As for where to live, depends what yer into, but i'd stay away from downtown and probably anywhere above Harrison Blvd and you'll probably keep close to the feel of Boulder. South Ogden is a little cleaner/newer than the rest. Chances are, however, for your nightlife, if you're into the bar-scene, you'll end up in SLC which is a 45 min drive away, so you'll need a good sober friend to drive (easy to find in Utah) or a girl or two to crash with when you end up in SLC late.
when are you moving out? you going to be here for school? what kind of work do you do or are you looking for? some of that may help figure out what you'd be up for.
Dragicon 04-25-2006, 08:49 PM I am def into the outdoorsy stuff so I think I will be entertained on the weekend days. But that info helped a lot. I will be working at ATK, about 40 minute drive northwest of ogden, and I figured if I wanted to have any fun and still be a practical commute, I would live in Ogden. I kind of also planned on going down to SLC for fridays or saturdays... but I the one friend that I will have out there would be as willing to party as I would... so the driving thing might get complicated. I will probably figure it out more when i get out there, but I just didnt want to be completely paranoid that there isnt anything to do at night on the weekends.
I'm an Ogden area resident, but a bit older and a lot more boring :) Oh, and I have a Legacy, so I guess I'm not included :P
As Sandkicker mentioned, the best parts of Ogden for night life are on 25th Street, east of the Union Station. Lots of great restaurants, some bars, a brewery (Roosters) and whatnot.
I'd recommend using one of the car/van pools that exist for the commute to ATK. You'll save money and miles on your WRX, even though you might sacrifice a bit of driving freedom.

I've already got another person for carpooling, will try and join up a larger one after i get settled in... Thanks for the tip

Anub1s 04-26-2006, 01:05 AM I'm in the SLC area, but I'm always ready to chill with a fellow scubie owner.
azn2nr 04-26-2006, 01:18 AM atk=thiokol ???
smdandb2 04-26-2006, 01:28 AM I worked at ATK up at Promotory a few summers ago doing the TR Rollout project. It was a fun place to work. The commute from Salt Lake to Promotory every day was horrible though.
Being out in the middle of BFE kinda sucks also. I hated packing lunches.
And azn, yes it is Thiokol(sp).
They have a facility in Promotory, and one in Magna/West Valley.
bigdsti 04-26-2006, 04:45 PM you'll be living pretty close th the new Miller Motorsports Park (http://www.millermotorsportspark.com/)
You lucky bastard.
Sandkicker 04-26-2006, 04:57 PM ...not to mention handfuls of fun canyon/mountain roads. ::thumbs up::
rally_on 04-27-2006, 01:00 AM werd. all the canyons are never really too busy, (at least near ogden) and there are rarely cops in 'em
