I have an 05' wrx and am looking to upgrade. I am going with a uppipe and a Cobb Tuner stage 2. I have a 4" bellmouth downpipe and 3" back from there and have gone with a aftermaket intake. I love the sound and the car seems to run great. I just got off the phone with Cobb programming and they said that the car will run much better with the stock intake. I don't want to believe this because I love the sound and I think it runs great. I asked this question beceause they recommend using the stock intake and say that an aftermarket will cause the car to run inconsistintly. What should I do? Put back in the stock or leave as is. This intake is one that goes down in the fender. I still think the uppipe and Cobb is a great upgrade I am just concernd that I am not getting the best out of my ride. Thanks for the help.

Listen to CoBB !!!

The OEM intake will be fine... You just wasted about $150-200 for that intake
Intakes are worthless until you absolutely need to get one.
( FMIC, Turbo Upgrades )
Stick with stock !

it sounds like you have a cold air intake.
bad for the wrx/good for sti without a tune i heard.
dunno never messed with intakes since my HONDA/ACURA days.
STOCK AIR BOX if you want to win the race.

i would rather listen to Cobb tuning than listen for a cute intake sound.

stock intake FTW!!!

+1

Listen to cobb bro, tuning and making subaru products is all they do, they know what there talking about. Plus everyone on here will tell you the same thing. With all the problems associated with intakes I always think its funny that people are willing to take the risks just to get it sound cool.

Stock intake for the win.

because I love the sound and I think it runs great.

Key word there is think. If you had a wideband O2 set-up you'd KNOW that you are wrong.

+ 987654345679 for moded snorkus stock air box!

I sold my Injen ESX CAI and re-installed my stock air box, so I could save for a downpipe.

LoL...losing what CAI is not going to effect your performance. In fact, It will response quicker if you put the stock intake back in and get an intake silencer delete elbow for $45 bucks and if you are smart, you can mod your stock intake for FREEEE!!!

I assume that this is a search number, how do I enter it in to find this link? And thanks for all the input I wish I would have done this sooner. I will put the stock back in. Is the mod just removing the silencer in the fender?

I just wanted to throw this in just in case in the future you might ask. Do your stock BPV while you're doing the intake mod instead of buying another BOV. Modded stock BPV proven to hold up to 20psi.

Listen to what Cobb tells you if you are going to use there EM. If they say its not designed for an intake is because......its not designed for an intake.

Yes it does sound better but its going to have too much turblance for your car to read o2 properly. The best reason to go with an aftermarket intake is because you need to room to install a front mount intercooler or your stock intake is a restriction with an upgraded turbo. Your stock intake can breath more then enough for your stock turbo. People that do need intakes are spending tons of $$$ on dyno run tuning there car, they arent using off the shelf maps designed for a car with the stock intake. So technically the intake is BAD for your car.

If your hell bent on having an intake use the Cobb intake. I've also heard the Injen was nice but hell if I know, I just heard that. Your cheapest, and probably best option is going to be modifying your stock intake so you can get the sound you hold so dear.

Once you install the TBE the intake noise isnt going to be all that great compared to the exhaust noise.

Trust everyone about the CAI, I went down that road already with an injen set up. The CAI can and I say "can" cause a lean mixture in the fuel delivery. The stock MAF cant read all the air the CAIs let in causing the fuel mixture to be too lean, unless you spend the big money and get a bigger MAF set up. Cobb says the stock intake is good to like 350awhp. If you must run one I would go with Cobbs short ram, they are designed to flow air over the MAF like a stock box and the AP will be ok with it.

a winner by default

just get the hks carbon ti exhaust and you wont worry about the sucking noise, its nice ,but the exhaust music is sweeter!!!
