I dont know much about but lately there is so much talk about ethanol mixed with fuel because of gas prices. My question is, if im running coob stage 2 93 octane map, will the ethanol mess that up? I guess my question is does ethanol lower the octane of gas enough that it would effect the car when using coob AP?

the ethanol actually raises the octane as IIRC its 105. the thing is it is alot thinner and requires alot more fuel pressure to atomize correctly.

thats interesting. i was under the impression that it was diluting the octane.

Ethanol is a high octane fuel, but needs more fuel flow.
It is at least 105 octane --- (some contend its real world octane is closer to 118)
If you add a lot of it to the fuel it will lean out your fuel air mixture some. In closed loop for ECU's that adjust that, the fuel trims will come back to a standard stoich mixture, but the open loop mixture may be slightly leaner.
You have absolutely no worries with added ethanol to gasoline at the federally mandated rate of 10%, the WRX will very happily run on a 33% mix of ethanol and gasoline with no CEL's and better performance than straight gasoline.
You can continue to run up to 50% ethanol but you will get a CEL due to the fuel trims being changed beyond what the ECU likes.
Some of us have been driving on 10% ethanol gasoline blends for 30 years --- don't worry about it, first it won't hurt your car, second Subaru guarantees the car will run on that fuel blend (read your owners manual).

All you need to know about adding ethanol in is the E-85 Fuel FAQ. It's a good read. I run about 30% ethanol when I can, but im still stock, and it makes my Saabaru run nice! I wish I didn't have to drive so far to get it.

The car comercials are for the Flex-Fuel cars that run normal gas or E-85(15%gas and 85% ethanol mix). The Flex-Fuel cars can adjust the amount of fuel that gets pumped into the cylinder depending on if you run E-85 or normal gas. The main difference between running ethanol and gas is the amount of ethanol you need to pump in to keep air fuel mix right. About the only differnce with the Flex cars is the ECU of the car knows hows to adjust for ethanol and the injectors can handle the higher flow rates.
Like I say read the E-85 fuel FAQ. It has all the info you need there. And more.

If you want to run E85, you'll need a protune and a few other things, including injectors and I forget what else. If you're talking about the ethanol that is added to normal pump gas you have nothing to worry about.

does ethanol lower the octane of gas enough that it would effect the car when using coob AP?Is the gas still labelled as 93 octane? There's your answer.
