I would say 225 as you get a bigger side wall and a better drive

n00bies from hell!

225/40 is the most correct size, that is to say that it's closer to factory overall diameter, and less weight than the 235.

My car with 225/40's...

On a side note, I LOVE how the PFF7 can look totally different depending on the lighting.

235's have a shorter sidewall than a 215 tire........you want 225's.

I just put 235's on my 18x8's and I wish I had put 245's or 255's. I definitely wouldn't go with 225 as IMO it just looks stretched...and from the back looks skinny (if we are discussing looks). If we are talking performance one is slightly shorter and one slightly taller overall and if it is an STi I doubt you would notice a difference. For handling I think the 235 is your better bet, they are not harsh handles very well...

Form over function eh'? The minimum wheel width for a 255 is 8.5", and the minimum wheel width for a 245 is 8.0"...the MINIMUM.

225 IS the size, now if you've got a problem with size, you might be inclined to choose otherwise.

I have 225/40-18 Azenis 615's on my 18x8's and they are honestly wider than most 235's and 245's in other brands I've seen. It def. varies by tire and brand.

Thanks for your answers guys. In my opinion the 225 is the size that corresponds more to the original size (215/45/17), but few people told me that 235 fit better an 8 inch wheel...Price are not very different, but I'm afraid that 235 will be to wide.

I thought the PFF7's were 18x8.5? Would this still mean to use a 225/40-18 tire?

at least 235s i had them with 225s and a wider tire would have looked way better

Nope, they are 18x8.

Sorry to bring back a thread from the abyss but i'm in the same situation right now (trying to decide between 225 or 235 for Pff7's). I've been reading up on the differences between them and it seems the main downside to the 235's is the larger gearing for the 5 speed on the WRX. My question is... is it noticeable in real world conditions? Or is the sacrifice worth it for all the benefits of 235 (looks, sidewall, larger contact patch)?

I've got 235's on mine and they look much better than when i had 225's. The 225's just looked too small on 8" rims.
