Ok I have a question......I hope its not like a repeat I couldnt bring my self to read 23 pages of posts, sorry. My 02 rex is pining in the top end anround 5000 and up but not all the time. I have the AP stage2 CA. base map in it and still pings. Mods TBE, gutted upipe, intercooler hoses, turbo inlet hose, stock air box with K&N drop-in, one step colder NGKs. We have 111,000 miles on it and it is treated pretty well. I am running some "snake oil" fuel cleaner through it right now but hasnt changed much. I was wondering if anybody has had any trouble like this?? I talked to Cobb already and they are scrathing their heads. I dont really have anybody where I live that can do any data logging. The turbo inlet hose in from Gp moto.......has anybody ran into anything like the crankcase breather causing an issue with unregulated air in the intake??? I am running out of ideas.....any help would be great, or if anyone knows of somebody that can do a data log in the Flathead valley area of Montana. Thanks in advance!!

well i can tell you two things....

1) the gp moto inlet is garbage. proved over and over on here. its prone to tearing and splitting
2) why do you feel you need colder plugs? you dont need em and shouldnt have em....

just something to look into... :)

You say "treated pretty well". Have you changed the fuel filter? Might be a place to start if you have not.

I would take a good look at the moto inlet and make sure its still good. If your desperate you may just want to order a new inlet.

What boost psi are you running when it starts pinging?

How long has it been pinging? Did it start a few miles after a fill up? Could it be bad gas? May want to start running a brand name gas if your not already....

The inlet is new and I dont think I have any tares or cracks in it. The car idles fine and dosent have any type of surging issues and low idle or low run. When the boost is around 15-15.8 psi and around 5000+rpm I get a ping out of it. I ran with a colder plug to try and clear up the pinging and becouse our gas up here is crap. We have Conoco or Exxon and thats it, besides the junk stations. The pinging has been on going for a while, more then just one tank of fuel. I just changed the fuel filter, timing belt and tensioner, oil, oil filter and plugs. When I load the stage1 CA. RT map from the AP the pinging stops.

The GP moto intake is not that bad, but because of the material and angles some things are pulled it can tear. Make sure there is no pressure from the attached hoses and you will be fine.

I believe cobb posted up in a thread about running 1 step colder plugs on their stage 2 set up. I know they recommend coppers and intervals of 10-15k miles.

also try another map instead of the stage 1. Redownload it sometimes bits can get corrupted on transfer.

That was the next step redownloading from Cobbs site. I am running NGK BKR7E copper plugs. Thanks for the help, Im startin to get a headache over this....lol

Ok update time, I found a vac line off on the right side of the intake manifold possibly fuel psi reg??? <doom arse> The engine smoothed out (imagine that) but I still get a ping or two at round 5200rpm. I did down load the latest maps from the web site, I belive I already had the latest but wnated to make sure. I reloaded the stage2 CA. base map I just down loaded. I tighend up every hose and checked every vac line I could find. Also went over the vac system with carb spray to try and get a reaction from a possible leak. Could it be possible that I am getting some unregulated air from the crank case breather??? Past that Im stumped Oh and I did load the Stock RT map and no ping at all....

What are you using to datalog? Post it up if you got it. I know sometimes the computer will try to add timing up until the max DAM allowance. Log yo KC value as well so we can have a look.

I wish I could...but I dont think anybody up here can do a datalog. Does anyone know of some one in th NW of Montana that can??? I live in Columbia Falls just outside of Kalispell.

I have victory!!!! I ran a gallon of xylene to a full tank and no ping on the stage2 CA map!!! Of course I cant afford to run it like this all the time but at least I know now its the freggin fuel up here causing my headache. I have to see how it does when it comes off the xylene and back down to pump gas.

It will ping again.

You probably have an air leak somewhere that is after the maf, but before the turbo. Did you say something about the crankcase breather tube?

Since you replaced the inlet hose, double check all of the vacuum/breather lines going to it, and tighten down the clamps around the BPV return lines.

Also, try running BP/Amoco fuel. I've found it to be the most det. resistant fuel around here (I'm in MN).

You should also download EcuExplorer and run some datalogs, checking IAM, KC and total ignition advance.

How do I do that??? Where can I find EcuExplorer??? Will the AP do this or do I need to hook a lap top in??? Sorry if these are nOOB questions I just have never done that before. As far as air leaks I looked at everthing and found no leaks, I am gonna try and replace the PCV and see if it helps. Thanks for the info

Ok I hope this right, http://s76.photobucket.com/albums/j2/fabwiz/ tat should be the right link to my datalogs. I was running 1 gallon of xylene to a full tank when I did this log. Any thoughts on what you guys see would be great. Thanks
oh ya and the pics are out of sequence (nOOB) but the image descriptions are right as far as numbering goes

whats wrong with your engine speed?? and put the egt in *F..... is that all logged on one run? if so dont do as many parameters...i think that may have messed some stuff up considering my first question....

Which parameters should I run? Im not sure what is wron with the engine speed. It looks like the rpm range is correct. Should it look diffrent??
