View Full Version : Broken '02 Morrette Lights (need fix!)
bobafett 04-28-2006, 01:15 PM I was hit by a few rocks recently and one of my headlights was damaged. The bulbs work, but the glass housing is cracked on one (the high beam) and shattered on the other (the low beam).
Do I need to replace each bulb completely, or just the front cover glass? Who sells the parts (or bulbs) to replace these?

car_cursed 04-28-2006, 01:20 PM contact Kenny08. he has some extras
Mulder 04-28-2006, 01:23 PM The glass lenses are not available separately, you have to replace the entire lamp assembly that is damaged. In your case you'd need a replacement low and high beam for that side.
Unfortunately Morettes are not currently being produced, and I don't know about the availability of replacement parts. In the past you could get the lamp assemblies from some of the vendors who were Morette dealers, but that may no longer be the case. Sorry to say your best bet may be to find a complete set of used Morettes in the classifieds.
And, although it's too late for you, this is a perfect example of why it's important to protect the lenses with one of the adhesive film products i.e. Xpel, Stongard etc.
I've had Xpel on my Morettes since day one, they've been hit by lots of things and the lenses are still perfect after four years.
edit- just saw the above post, you may have gotten lucky. But, heed my advice about the film unless you want to be doing this again.

Ya, I considered that stuff when I first bought the lights, but for some reason I never purchased them...guess I thought I was good enough to dodge the rocks!
Thanks guys, I'll check with Kenny08.
car_cursed 04-28-2006, 02:01 PM yeah, i had to replace the high bean too, now getting xpel put on next week.

I hope you're not paying someone to do that. If you have Morettes, just go to the Xpel site and buy a single raw 1-sq-ft sheet for $15, then cut out four 4" circles and apply them to the lights. This is a cheap and relatively easy DIY.
For best results, remove the lights from the car and take them inside. Clean the lenses thoroughly and apply the film at room temperature. You can do it wet or dry, just follow the instructions whichever way you prefer.
Hank3 04-28-2006, 03:26 PM They're out of stock now, but the HID forums sell the Valeo H7 Low Beam Projector Units:
http://www.hidplanet.com/valeo.html
Also, don't know if they're still selling but you can also try this link:

Those Valeos are not the same as the units in the Morettes, not sure if they would fit. At the very least the external appearance is different so both sides would need to be replaced.
They are referred to as "HID Projectors" although from the pic and description on another page it appears they can take H7 bulbs. It's not clear whether these are true HID modules or if they're just being sold that way.
car_cursed 04-28-2006, 03:40 PM they are only charging me $30 for all four, so I am having them, do it. that way everything is how it should be, i sucked at arts and crafts, couldn't cut straight to save my life
Mulder 04-28-2006, 03:53 PM Well ok, I suppose that's not too bad.
When I did mine, I made a cardboard template using a compass, then used that to mark the film and cut the circles along the line. Not hard at all. And, I now have the templates on hand for future use if I need them again. Came in handy last year when I replaced the film after it got a bit cloudy (three years on the car will do that).
I followed the same procedure for the foglights so I've got templates for those too.
bobafett 04-28-2006, 07:43 PM just go to the Xpel site and buy a single raw 1-sq-ft sheet for $15
What's with the $12 Ground shipping fee?!?!
car_cursed 04-28-2006, 07:59 PM word, just look for a local dealer
Mulder 04-28-2006, 08:03 PM Hm, I don't recall paying that, I just tried to find my old receipt but no luck. Maybe their shipping charges have changed, are you sure that was for the cheapest shipping option?
car_cursed 04-28-2006, 08:10 PM i email them and they quoted me $10.38 for something that weighs less than a pound
tuellma 04-28-2006, 08:26 PM Excellent post. Gotta make sure mine are done.
Sorry to see your lights get damaged.
Had to replace my entire passenger morette last year....took 3 weeks of hunting before I found a shop that happened to have a set returned for a broken drivers light. They were more than happy to sell the passenger light for $400 :( but hey...what can you do...beside, my insurance picked up the tab.
wrxspdr 04-28-2006, 11:09 PM Let me know if you do find a source one of my lights is like fogged and not as good as it used to be
Hank3 04-29-2006, 12:34 AM If they're gonna charge an arm and a leg for shipping, I believe RockBlocker sells the pre-cut ones for right around $30.

Just ordered for $25.70 shipped. So wanted to get the smoked ones...but went with the clear like a good law abiding citizen :(
