Can someone point me to some direction. I don`t have more than 100 bucks to spend on my detector. I've not been pulled yet. But would like the warning of some cops ahead!

Thanks.

I'm in a similar position as you. I'm currently considering the BEL 936, for under $130 at www.radar-guys.com. It's a little over your $100 limit, but for under that, all a detector is going to do is identify the band you got caught with.

The BEL 936 is a better version of the BEL 880, which tested well for a mid-range detector. There is a blurb about it here: http://www.radartest.com/MRDT.html

I'm one of those people that just wants to be able to do 80Mph comfortably, so the 936 looks like a good choice for me. If you're looking to go everywhere at 100Mph, you might want to look into spending the cash on a BEL980, Valentine1, or Passport 8500.

I hate to say it but you get what you pay for with radar detectors. Although it's expensize, the Valentine 1 is the only way to go. Sorry I cna;t help you out more

Save your money for the tickets, you will need it! I would get a Valentine 1.

That's a load of crap. While the valentine is clearly the best unit out there it doesn't mean that the others are crap. Don't drive like a moron and you will be fine even with no detector.
Slow down in places where you can't see clearly the road in front of you, or in places where cops can be hiding. Becareful of vehicle fast approaching you from behind, specially at night. On the HWY if you can help it let some other idiot lead the pack. Match his speed but at a safe distance.
Drive with your brains, in other words intelligently, and you will be fine, even with something else. Too many people put too much confidence on their detectors that they stop thinking behind the wheel and are too often surprised by instant-on, or pacing. If the cops are hiding some place on the side of the road, and you're the first to come by and he zaps you. Nothing is saving your butt now.
Been driving now for the last 5 years with no detector with no tickets. Driving as fast as ever. Last time i got nabbed was back in 94. Twice withing 1 month paced at night in the parkway.
In your budget I would get a Bel or a uniden unit.
Peace.

My BEL's melted. Twice.

Not sure which ones they
were (cost me about $140, if that helps), but they worked
great...until I left them in the sun (for just a few hours)
and they both quit working. Finally exchanged the 2nd
one (which replaced the 1st) for a Whistler. About the
same price, not sure what model (no voice warning, I
know that). It works a lot better - less false alarms,
better detection - but it's not nearly as bright (harder
to see in the daytime) and not nearly as loud as a BEL.

I have one of the "nicer" Uniden detectors. It's kinda cheesy (it's no V1!) but despite that it's got plenty of nice features and HAS SAVED ME FROM MANY TICKETS. Even if it's no the best, a radar detector will keep you more aware of what speed you are travelling at.
