I have no idea where to post this, due to different guesses as to what the problem is. I did a search but came up with way too many results. Here's the sitch:

When i take off, primarily first gear/normal take off, i get a chirp from, what sounds like the front of the car!?!?!?! Sometimes it happens going into second. It happens alot when i go over bumps too, WTF? I am totally lost as to what this chirp could be. Its an 04 STi, with stock suspension with the exception of H&R springs. No aftermarket pulleys, etc. At first i thought it was a belt chirp, but i dunno. Happens often over bumps......anybody have a clue? Thanks. :)

Any other MODS? Be honest. Also describe better the chirp, how it sounds, when exactly it sounds, etc.

H&R springs, catless dp, catback, kartboy x-long exhaust hangars (maybe chirping?), lineage grounding kit, thats about it for right now.

I cant really explain the chirp anymore.....sorta like a cricket. Happens when i take off normally in first/sometimes second, and it also happens most of the time when i go over bumps. My buddy told me that it could possibly be a bushing chirp. The sound is like when a belt slips, but i dont think it's that cause its only for a split second...just a real quick chirp.

Probably the belts - my 04 STi was making the same sounds in the same situations you are describing, and only for a split second like you said. it will probably soon become worse, and the chirping sound will be more constant, especially in warmer temperatures. at least thats what is going on with me, i just havent had the time to go get new belts.

My STi will chirp the front tires if I launch it in first, or pop the clutch going into second...

Are you getting on it hard when this happens?

I'll also get chirps when I hit bumps due to the stiff coilovers and the tire losing contact with the road...

All of my chirps are definately the tires.

its a bushing somewhere.

my rear swaybar bushing makes this noise. check around, and use some grease.

i had a wierd chirping/squeeking sound also a couple days ago and it turns out it was the bracket off my transmission and the downpipe bracket were rubbing because a bolt had backed out--i threw a lock washer on and reinstalled the bolt and now the problem when away

i would check that and your sways and also your wing--found out that 4 out the 8 bolts were not tight

Definately sounds like suspension, as you accelerate the weight comes off the front suspension as well as going over bumps. Check and tighten all suspension components and lubricate as well. You can try spraying down your bushings, strut mounts, and all contact points. Mine does a similar chirp coming from the brakes sometimes....Need to lube the slides, try that as well as it cant hurt.

Get it on a lift. Wiggle forcefully to see if chirp can be found. If you can find it lube suspenstion bits that could chirp.

If it's a belt issue, washing the belt sprockets down with some water will make the chirp worse temporarily, then you can decide if you want to change belts or do something else to "ease" the noise.

Check your heat shields near the downpipe.

I had a similar problem as well. I discovered that my lower heat shield on the turbo was rubbing against the downpipe just enough to annoy me. Make sure you have good clearance around the downpipe.

Sounds like the beginnings of the strut clunk, lube your strut shafts with white lithium grease, takes 2 mins and could eliminate the problem. After that head to the DP area and check your heat shields.

Thanks alot for all the input guys. I know it isnt the downpipe, as the heatshield is removed and that DP have PLENTY of clearance. Right now i am leaning towards the belt chirp. Car only has 20kmiles on it, as i have a daily driver that i drive to work, etc. The struts are also going to be greased in the near future as i am developing the strut clunk pretty bad in the rear, so ill just do the fronts at the same time, and probably hit some suspension bits up front while im at it. With all the input, i will slowly narrow it down. Thanks again for the replys!

I have a little flutter kinda chirping like you described, I think is is just my valves in my heads. I cant even hear it when I open the hood and look, just when it is under throttle. a lot of Suby's make noise from the heads. Who knows.
