Hey guys, I was installing a full set of APS headers and TBE exhaust on my 04 STi this weekend, and somehow putting the up pipe scraped along the head and made a hole in it. But its just not any part of the head, it is a smooth soft like metal material along the valve cover towards the back of the head close to the firewall. Which is what is missing when checked on the other head. Now, if this material was soft enough to be scraped off with a braket from an up-pipe, would some type of aluminum repair putty be able to hold? The hole is big enough to put your finger in it and oil squirts out but not too strong. I just have no idea how to fix it without having to drop the ENTIRE engine and save some money for labor.

Someone please help.

By the way, cant put it back to stock anytime soon. The dealer wil just try to find an excuse to not cover it.

Thanks for your help.

In the head or in the valve cover? Seems unlikely that you put a hole in the head unless you were prying on that uppipe like a gorilla. Maybe you just pushed the cam seal back into the head?

Does it look like a half moon? If so just replace that cam seal.

yeah the half moon seal is easy to replace. just yank out the intake and coilpacks and then remove the valve cover. mind the torque ratings on those little bolts when you screw 'em back on.

hey i did the same thing its an easy fix but a lil time consuming. all you have to do is pull the valve cover off. take that plastic grommet the you knocked in out. what this isis a safe guard, if your oil pressure even gets crazy high it blows out and saves the head. now that you got the grommet, clean all the gray instant gasket off it, and the head itself. the grommet should have a channel on the rounded side. if one of the lips are damaged and one is good the it is still useable. lay a good thick bead of gray gasket maker on the head and on the grommet. when you put the grommet back in make sure the good lip side is on the insde. press it in good and flush with the head. wipe away any excess sealerand allow it to dry. for added precaution i layed a second coat of searer on top of the outside and inside after the first application dryed. thats it put the valve cover back on, make sure that the valve cover gasket is seated right. tighten it down, put eventing back to gether, fill your fluid and you should be good
