The stock wheels are far from the so called "light" those things are heavy as hell
The OEM BBS wheels are exceptionally light for their size. Not the lightest possible but close enough. The 18x8 Prodrive wheels are about 4 pounds more, each. Nice wheels, just a tad heavier than some prefer.

Regardless a few pounds of weight aint going to hurt this car has the power to move the wheels.
Yes the STi has lots of power, but even with 300hp, heavier wheels can still make a difference.

If you've switched to Pirelli PZero Nero M&S, you have an excellent all season performance tire (I use them myself as winter tires), and they're lighter than the RE070s. They also have a softer sidewall (giving a cushier ride) and don't have nearly the dry grip. All tires compromise in some way.

OEM tire is 27lbs., vs. 24lbs (or 23 if you went for the 225/40s) for the 18" Pirelli. You're up a pound per corner overall (or maybe none at all). Not a lot, and not enough to hinder straight-line performance (though you're already giving up a bit of dry handling from the different tire).

up the psi to compensate
Interesting. Are you suggesting that increasing psi will compensate for a heavier tire/wheel combo?
