I just bought a 2003 outback with 43K on it, I love it! whoever the 1st owner was they took real good care of it.
the breaks squeaked a little so I wanted to make sure it was taken care of, the dealer quoted me 191.00 per axle to replace pads, Auto zone's best was 49.00, but when I got home the pads were new. I have never heard new pads "groan" when move slow and apply breaks (like going over a speed bump).
I have been reading the post about head gaskets, I have noticed that after drive home (1 hour drive at 80-85 MPH) I notice a oil smell, I have been reading that if you smell this your HG is about to go, please tell me this is not so. would this be covered by warranty? I still have about 15K on PowerTrain, I also have a 100K extended that is BTB. I am good with cars but I cannot find a noticable leak.

By the way I LOVE THIS CAR, it drives like it has glue on the tires.
also what mods can I do for HP while still getting current mileage (or close) that wont void warranty.
