I wanted to bump this thread and tell you guys about a car I tuned in Texas last weekend. Here is the setup
02 wrx
Utec
Pump
modified injectors
Fmic
Intake
2.5 block
Td04 turbo
Ex 38 gate
Basic big turbo setup with no big turbo. I had my doubts when tuning it. I knew the turbo would run out of breath fast. I made a timing map from scratch and road tuned the fuel map. I set boost at 13 psi peak. The car took good timing and ran perfect from 12.5 to 1 down to 11 to 1 on pump gas. Since the boost was low the AFR could be lean without issue. THis car pulled 4.5 volts on the maf. In other words MORE then your typical VF turbo 2.0 does. The car made 13 psi by 2600 rpm. There is no way I could describe the response. 1/4 throttle and you had FULL boost in a time that was not even measurable. The External gate unleased a Crap load of power. It was open any time you gassed it.
It was one of the funnest cars I have ever driven. The owner, Dean and I where laughing our asses off driving that car through curve filled roads. The tall gears in the 5mt where perfect match for this car. It would pull through 4th gear with ease. I did not dyno it but I expect Trq was way above 300ft lbs. Hp would be a total guess but if it was not 280+ I would be shocked. It is a Td04 but that Gate was bypassing alot of the exhaust to atmosphere and the MAF volts do not lie. We railed that thing and had a total blast even in 5th gear and it refused to knock. It was 110+ outside that day too. This car would EAT a stock STI for lunch and would probably take most stock turbo STI's out. It pulled that hard. 3k rpm and you where slammed in your seat.
This made me have real hopes for the 06 WRX. It comes with the 2.5 and Td04. Just add an EX gate, an intercooler and some EM and you will have one hell of a street car. Def one of the funnest cars I have ever driven. More fun that Super high power cars for sure.
