Getting a front clip is smart, in almost any case. You'll have almost all the pieces you need.
But xcntrk is correct, a USDM swap is more costly than a JDM swap usually. Plus, its a little trickier with the DBW, from what I understand.
Another option if you go 6MT for the rear diff is a 91-94 Legacy Turbo 5MT rear diff.....they had 3.9 LSD rears. I purchased one (and matching half shafts) for that reason. There are a number of Rex's running around with JDM STi swaps and 6MTs with R160 rear ends and for the most part they can keep up rather well. Heck, someone has claimed to have done several 7k clutch dumps on the 6MT/R160 combo and the rear diff is still with him.
not something I'd recommend with that setup...but hey, thats his deal, not mine.
