I'm all but set on picking up one of Gruppe-S's JDM EJ205 Legacy motors to swap into my 03 WRX. My last hurdle is the swap. I checked with the place that does my tuning, and they want a little over $3000 just for the labor for the swap, which seems a bit steep.
I've done a motor swap before with a buddy on a Neon and am reasonably handy around an engine bay. Is the WRX motor something that can be swapped by a shade-tree mechanic, or is it pretty much a job to leave to the pros? And if it can be done at home, any rough estimates on the time it would take with a hoist and a couple of people working on it?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.
