I used to bring my previous car to Jiffy Lube for oil changes. They have a nice list of things that they check, one of them being the windshield wipers. I knew that my wipers were completely useless because we have crows in the parking lot at work that rip parts of them off. On two occasions, they checked out fine. How can I count on them doing everything else right if they don't check what they're supposed to check?
One other experience was more entertaining than worrying: I get out of my car, and move to the waiting area. A couple of minutes later a young guy comes in, and tells me that he can't release my e-brake! I do work out, but it really wasn't that tight.
So I decided that my nice new WRX would not be exposed to any oil change places. I don't have much experience working on cars, but at least I know what's happening if I do things myself. I just did my second oil change last weekend, and if I can do it, anybody can!
