I had my 60K service done at the dealer. They did a good job. They told me the next BIG service is 90K. That is when they change the timing belt. The whole service is going to be around $550. The best part about the 60K service was they didn't find any problems with my car except I needed new pads. I did that myself, super easy.
I bought the 4/48,000 mile extended warranty at the same time. So I am under warranty untill around 2005 or 108,000 miles. This was my first Subaru so I was kind of unsure how reliable they were. I got it for some piece of mind. I was starting to wonder if I wasted my money. Untill one day I started her up, put her in reverse, and all the sudden the ABS light comes on. All the lights in the dash were diming and totally screwed. Well to the dealer I go. Turns out after 3 days of searching that a small wire(third brake light) had rubbed untill it grounded. They showed me the invoice. The total bill would have been around $600. That made the warranty look like a very wise purchase. I have had zero problems since and they did a great job on cleaning up and putting everything back together. I went in to look one day and my car was in many pieces
I was so worried they would screw it up or break something; but nope.
