I'm sure that cars from all mfg's have problems occasionally.
Subaru is no exception.
I have had lots of problems with my WRX because I believe that Subaru under-engineered the US version.
The Japanese version is beefier in just about every way (especially in high-wear items like the clutch and brakes)
to those who think that it's because of the way they are driven, i have to say in my case you are wrong. I've gone fast - it's marketed as a performance car. BUT i've never had transmission problems and clutch problems with ANY other manual car before.
I drove my 90 legacy into the ground...literally, i truly abused it and it kept on going. I did have to replace the transmission, but that was entirely my fault.
Back to the subject, these do seem like problems specific to the WRX and I wouldn't worry at all about the new sport wagon.
