I've been having problems starting my car lately, and it's become worse over time. The battery is good (optima red top, less than a year old, all electronics will work without dimming even with the car not running), but when I go to start it, it clicks once when I turn the key forward. If the car's been sitting more than a couple of hours, I have to repeatedly turn the key to start until the starter finally kicks over and turns the motor over. Motor starts smooth when it actually starts. If the car just sits 20 or 30 minutes, I have no problem starting it (as of yet...knock on wood cause I'm at work
). One of my friends had a simular problem with his Ford and says he replaced the starter cylinoid and it cured the problem.
Anyone know how easy this is to do on a NA Subaru? Where is it? My partner said most are mounted to the starter, but some smaller cars he's worked on have them up in the engine bay. Any ideas? Please don't tell me this is a dealership job
