yeah of course, airbags could always make an accident a lot safer/comfortable... it'll save you some whiplash, and if you sit close to the steering wheel, there's less chance of you smacking your head on it... it saves lives, that's why they use em

from my experience, (been in a couple accidents while in the passenger/back seat), passenger airbag is far more important, since the driver is braced with the dead pedal and holding onto the steering wheel, while the passenger really only has the seatbelt.. I dunno..
