subaru short blocks are a PITA to rebuild. I would highly recomend getting a STi 2.5L short block. reason being, my friend made 50WHP more then i did at 3000RPM with settups not to different from myne.... they are a bit costly, but if i ever blow my bottom end i wouldnt even consider a 2.0 just for the simple fact that, there is no replacement for displacement.
Again... would i like to put a new EJ257 short block in? Sure. Do I have the money? no. That means its not going to happen. Im not looking to make insane numbers here, Im looking for daily driver.
Again, from my experiences it shouldnt cost more then $250-300 for the rebuild (seals, gaskets, rings and rod bearings). That being said Ive never done it on a Subaru. Am I wrong here?
