correct, the metal part on the outside of the door... The part that you have to cut small pieces, and then reach through the small access holes to apply it, leaving lots of blood in the door in the process. Once you are done with that, cut up tin sheets and cover the holes entirely. (which results in even more blood-letting!)
doing the door cards won't do much, they are plastic so when they resonate it won't actually affect the sound much, at least not nearly as much as the metal pieces will. and matting both the card and the inner door might make the total area too thick to fit back together well.
