Good write up, but crimp connectors for the airbag...

I work in an airbag inflator design group (read airbag engineer) and I wouldn't mess with them (airbags). I would not generally switch airbags from year to year because generally the inflator and the airbag control module are tuned to work together and should not be used with anything but the exact part number that they were originally paired with.

However, my suspicion is that since this is a single stage inflator, you will likely be just fine. Subaru carries over a lot of technology from year to year. Newer driver's side and passenger side airbags are dual stage and are much much more application specific.

Get rid of those crappy crimps and solder the connection. MAKE SURE TO REMOVE THE CONNECTOR FROM THE AIRBAG PRIOR TO SOLDERING OR YOU MAY KILL YOURSELF.
