You can extend this idea out further from the ramp buy just getting wider planks. Cut a couple of 24" sections of 2x12 and I'm sure you'll be OK unless you're super low. Even then you could stack a shorter section of 2x12 on top and glue or nail them together.

If you have trouble with the ramp moving, rig up something that hooks the ramp and wood together when in use.
