Thats exactly what I did, with the help of a friend who knows bodywork. He also used some mesh tape to cover the holes left from cutting then used this glue/bondo stuff to fill it in along with the crack between glued pieces.
To be honest, the hardest part of the whole thing was putting longer studs in the rear hubs for the spscers, that was a nightmare... I ended up breaking a bolt off in the rear caliper and breaking one of the a.b.s. rings, that was a long night.
Hint*** If your ever putting long studs in the rear hubs the easiest way to get them in is to port out the hole for the abs sensor to get the long studs in from the back of the hub.
